I cancelled my room tomorrow and Sunday night. I've been on hold with American trying to get a new flight scheduled for tomorrow morning.

I'm at a friends house on lock down...
We're all too scared to leave since sh*t went down like 2 blocks away
Nothing is open in town, right?

Ain't that gonna be hella expensive?LaMuSayonga wrote:I cancelled my room tomorrow and Sunday night. I've been on hold with American trying to get a new flight scheduled for tomorrow morning.
@Wert - that's what I thought at 730 this morning about this afternoon...

They didn't charge me anything for cancelling given the circumstances. American is waiving the change fee if you do it over the phone instead of online. I did waste money on the initial flight and tonight's stay, though.

Every customer rep I talked to this morning was really understanding about cancelling reservations. They waived my fees for cancelling my hotel room and I got a most of my flight money back. I would have received a full refund on my flight, but since I booked it through orbitz, I had a penalty fee.ManOfTheMinute wrote:Ain't that gonna be hella expensive?LaMuSayonga wrote:I cancelled my room tomorrow and Sunday night. Also got a $25 credit on food and a $50 credit on a future flight.

And that's what they thought too. They said well let you know by noon and then didn't till 130, I think cause they just kept thinking things would get worked out. You notice the email was careful not to say asw is cancelled, but rather don't. Oftravel today. Also im downtown and there is noticeably more activity than an hour ago.ManOfTheMinute wrote:Ain't that gonna be hella expensive?LaMuSayonga wrote:I cancelled my room tomorrow and Sunday night. Also Fwiw you are very respectfully seeing reporters on twitter (Nate silver) question the wisdom of just shutting down a city indefinitely.

Yeah, I have a one-way Amtrak from Boston to the Have on Monday... wondering if I should go ahead and cancel it now or if there might be possibility of things starting up on Sunday, in which case the short travel length for me would make it worth it to go, if only just to get a sense of the current and admitted students, which is what is really important to me. Are you guys planning on sticking around, or just calling it quits and heading back home?

And me!wert3813 wrote:So who is here now and actually staying? Just me and MOTM?
Edit - and sticking it out no matter what. Even if everything is cancelled (which I doubt), I'm gonna be hanging around.

Amtrak is shut down between Boston and New York. Might as well go out and meet some TLSers as long as you are in a place where you are allowed to go out.Alassio wrote:I'm sticking around bc I'm too scared to take Amtrak back haha![]()

At the request of local authorities, and due to ongoing police activity, Amtrak Acela Express and Northeast Regional service remains suspended indefinitely in the Boston area. Northeast Corridor trains are terminating at New York Penn Station.
Amtrak Downeaster continues to operate a modified schedule with no service to Boston.
Amtrak service is operating normally between Washington, DC, Philadelphia and New York. The Springfield Shuttle between New Haven, Conn. and Springfield, Mass. is also operating on a normal schedule.
A decision about restoration of service into the Boston area will be made when local authorities inform us operations can resume.

I switched transportation to come in early tomorrow morning instead so I really hope so! My situation could be so much worse but I'm still disappointed thinking it might not happen.ManOfTheMinute wrote:I really think its going to be "on" tomorrow, people are starting to act fairly normally around Cambridge

Re: In at Harvard: Class of 2016
Just finished writing my last exam of undergrad!! Woohoo!! (Only one take home assignment left..
)
I feel incredibly bummed about not going, but it seems like the second suspect is still at large. I've been in situations of critical personal danger before, and I've learned to err on the side of caution. I was really looking forward to meeting everyone finally. (I was genuinely super excited last night when we started coordinating things!)
Anyways, stay safe for all those in Cambridge.

Update, fwiw: SWAT closing in on somebody hiding in a boat in Watertown. Hopefully they can arrest this asshole and society (including HLS ASW) can get back to normal.
