I submitted my app December 27th and I haven't received a single email from them yet. Should I email them, call them, or wait?

Aaaannnnnddddd, nevermind. As of this morning suddenly not only do I have access to the status checker, but it is complete and is under review. Do they email or call or do they only send decisions out via snail mail?

are you referring to "Your application is now complete and has been forwarded to the Admissions Committee for review. " or is there another UR status afterwards prior to decision?

Anyone else think Columbia's cost of living assessment is beyond absurdly low? $11k in NYC! Chicago has a lower cost of living and still factors in $13k+ for Room/Board.

I haven't even been accepted/rejected/sneezed at by Columbia yet so it probably won't matter anyways, but still. Anyone care to share how you pay utilities and rent for that amount in NYC or should I just find myself a nice bench in Central Park

My friend at CLS pays a little more than $1000 for a spacious apartment (Columbia owned).

Harlem/N. Upper West Side isn't that bad on rent, and it's not difficult to find cheap, good food. If I go to Columbia/NYU, I'm considering Hoboken as well.

CLS provides subsidized housing. Also keep in mind that the COA estimates are only for nine months.

The Coa is still a bit frugal. Say 1k / month for 9 month. That leaves 2k for food transport etc. sounds low to me but its definitely doable.

Yeah I was just floored that 9 months in NYC could be cheaper then 9 months in Chicago. But I'm pleasantly surprised to learn about Columbia's subsidized housing- that's nice

CLS wasn't on my list until early January, when I got a fee waiver. Went complete: 1/7.

Should I view this as just a CLS application bump strategy? Or do I have a legitimate shot without a November complete date(like all my other schools)?

Any idea how long the wait is for January completers usually? I really don't want to feel the need to check my status twice a day for 4 months...

Remember LST says indirect expenses is 24k so subtract a bit for school stuff and I bet that's a better estimate of coa

+1 As a native New Yorker 11K is definitely on the low side. If I were to go to Columbia or NYU my mindset and spending habits would have to change. I work and live at home in NYC so my dispoable income is insane. I definitely spent at least 11K during these 7 months of working (mind you I don't have rent).
