There is only three reasons I can think of for postponing waitlist movement until now
1) They are incompetent and lazy and haven't got around to it.
2) They are trying to figure out how to interpret the new GPA and LSAT guidelines before they admit anyone below their medians.
3) They are waiting for all applicants to firmly decide if they want to go to ASU before they offer and so they keep their yield numbers high.

Can't be number 3. Their 'Letter of Intent' deadline has already passed.

Either people on the waitlist are paying seat deposits elsewhere while continuing to ride-out ASU (which can be a very expensive decision), or are very committed to attending ASU so they let go of other offers - this obviously carries the risk of having to take a year off only to reapply next cycle if rejected. Either way it would appear that those of us deciding to ride it out are risking something, be it financial resources or the ability to attend law school this year. Everyone still on the waitlist should be admitted right now

Having spent a combined hour speaking with dean of admissions and another admissions director on Tuesday, I don't think it's number 1, either. Quite the opposite, in fact. They seemed very thorough and thoughtful about their work. Based on the nature and tone of the conversations, I believe they are most likely making adjustments to their admissions formulas for yield and medians. They take their jump in rankings very seriously, and naturally want to protect it as much as possible.
I didn't ask specifically about the number of wait list spots, but I know they have pulled from the wait list, and will continue to do so.
Don't lose hope.

So they indicated to you that they have begun to admit off the waitlist?

From what I understand, they have pulled applications from the wait list for admission. I didn't get a firm yes or no if anyone had actually been admitted yet, but there will be movement.

I meant for the long game, as in applicants off the waitlist. As in everyone else has done the waitlist process. For example I have seen some applicants go through 4-5 schools as they get accepted from waitlists.
I agree with Jennbear, that is very expensive. Prohibitively so for a lot of people.
In reply to Jennbear's comment, I can see a situation where ASU eventually has to accept everyone off the waitlist if they want to keep enrollment at 200 students.
Someone should call and see if they have accepted anyone of the waitlist yet. I doubt it.

So, if I'm to understand this correctly...they've pulled files from the wait list of those they intend to admit, but haven't actually admitted them yet??

Actually no. From what I know they have admitted several people from the wait list, but no one in the last few weeks. It's possible they are happy with the current class, but on a positive note I know that some students committed here are on the wait list of other schools, and should they get pulled, then seats at ASU would in theory open up.

That's too bad if that's the truth. Kathy explicitly told me that they hadn't even begun to look at the wait list until this week. IF she was lying, I'm pretty disappointed by that fact.

The few I know who said they were wait listed and admitted got in a while ago, so perhaps they are now again just getting to it for the first time since they completed decisions. Idk, I hope everyone gets in!

Any chance it could be semantics, held vs. waitlisted?

I suppose that could be possible? Nowhere from my communications with them have I seen them use "held" though.

Kathy also told me that no movement had occurred from the waitlist as of yet.

Maybe they'll start sometime around September.

I am assuming since it is a Holiday on Wednesday the entire admissions department gets the week off, or at least those who make waitlist decisions

.
Has anyone called lately?

I spoke with the admissions office today about a non-related subject, point being they are in fact open. Good luck

after having declined ASU's admission/scholarship offer about two weeks ago, I received an email today asking if I would reconsider with additional scholarship money. still will not be attending, but there is definitely activity.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
