Since this is the day of good deals: is anyone willing to swap a Duke acceptance for one of MVP? I would do that deal in an instant - Duke is easily in my top 3. PM me to make the arrangements.

And why is it always about MVP?? lol. Berkeley gets no love?

California legal market is not as good. The posters on here skew east coast. For the most part though it's still considered a solid school. I think the main reason MVP are combined together is because they place almost the same into jobs. I don't know if B does the same-although Im sure it still does very well.

Yea, that sounds about right. I just love the QOL at Berkeley. I think it's better than most of the t-14, and since most students are trying to stay in California it should make the east coast jobs more viable (plus not having letter grades or class rank). But I guess this would be for a different thread.

Just got my decision email: priority reserve.

I was a bit surprised, since my numbers are comfortably over the school's medians - 173/3.76/2 years WE (Teach for America).

Wow. Can you think of any reason? Do you have some kind of criminal history? That's kind of frightening - I didn't think Duke YPs.

With those numbers, you should get at least a few t14 acceptances.

None that I can think of: no C&F issues, decent softs (TFA, student leadership, and former congressional staffer), and strong LORs.

I'm hopeful that a LOCI might help my case, since Duke is one of my top choices.

Edit: I did not write a 'Why Duke?' essay, which may have hurt my chances.

Very strange. But honestly, it might be a good call on their (and your) part. You're obviously pretty young, and a year of professional work experience will go a long way when you're looking for internships/SAs. I kinda wish I had worked a year instead of going straight through.

From what I've heard from current students, Duke is sort of notorious for priority WLing people w/over-median numbers who don't write a Why Duke essay. It's a soft yield protect, basically. If you write a letter of continuing interest there's a good chance you get admitted.

Obviously this is 100% conjecture.

February maybe, lol. I am slightly frustrated by Duke's process, but I'm sure they'll get to us RDers eventually. Plus, there are people who applied RD in September who haven't heard anything. Since I only applied a month ago, I guess I need to just shelve my indignation and get on with it.

Congrats to all the PT people who've been accepted!!! Know that I am jealous of you.

Good luck! I was RD and I got an email only 2 days after I was last under review (but I was first under review on 11/14).

Duke has already begun giving decisions to non-PT, RD candidates (I'm not sure if there's a "big batch" of decisions like for other schools). My application had 2 "under review" dates before I received a decision (~5 weeks after submission). My numbers are above/around median/75% for Duke and I wrote a 'Why Duke' essay.

Thanks! Also.. thanks potl for the info. I am significantly above the 3.84 75% gpa from class of 2014, and with a 169 just slightly below median of 170. So I am hoping for the best it's one of the more realistic schools I am applying to. I didn't realize there were going to be two updates to the under review dates, so thanks guys for that tidbit. I will certainly be back to post more info if/when I see any more action. And congrats addy on the acceptance!
