Re: Yale c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
I also just discovered the Yale quirk of the virtually requisite two academic LORs. I haven't submitted my app yet and currently have a single academic and single professional letter. I read the blog post, but how screwed would I actually be submitting only one academic letter? Am I buying a rejection letter? Does anyone get in with just one?
Numbers in profile if you are interested. I've been out of school for two years, working a prestigious federal job (hence the work letter). Appreciate TLS wisdom!

Re: Yale c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
The question is how strong your second academic recommendation would be for you. If you know your second academic rec would be as strong as your first, then go ahead and get it...but if you think the additional academic rec would be from someone who knows less about you as an applicant, then it can bring down your recommendations in total. Since you've been out of school for two years, I would say it's ok so long as your two recommendations are going to be very strong.Syme wrote:I also just discovered the Yale quirk of the virtually requisite two academic LORs. Re: Yale c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Dinged! Got the letter today via snail mail (live in New Haven County) 172/3.89.
I'm actually not disappointed, though. I already got into HLS and really think it's the better fit for me....although I would have gone to Yale if I got in (I also own a condo 20 minutes away from the school). I will be withdrawing from all other schools and sending my deposit into Harvard ASAP.
Good luck to everyone else still waiting!

Aww thanks, Poptorts! I was a big longshot for both of them....so I'm still thrilled about HLS! If anything, just leaving other spots open for other awesome applicants just like you!
FYI to everyone, the letter says they received 3000 applications for 200 spots....not sure if that's more or less applicants than last year but it's more than I thought there would be.

LSAC claims there were 3,797 applications last year, so 3000 seems like very good news. Sorry to hear about the ding, instantwonton.soj wrote:3000 already? Say it ain't so. :/

Waitlists seem to go out way later. I'll just keep hoping for no mail from YLS.

Ps - just to clarify, the letter says that they "expect to receive over 3,000 applications" this year.soj wrote:3000 already? Say it ain't so. :/
