Yeah, I harbor no hard feelings against Jerseygirl. I remember that when I took my LSAT in October, EVERYONE told me the results would be available on a Friday. Friday came, the scores weren't there, and I chose to head down to Carrboro instead of sit at my computer and wait. When I woke up the next morning (and what a night that was), my LSAT score was in my inbox.

This makes me sick to my stomach. I'm weighing REDACTED. I feel like I just got punched in the stomach and pat on the back at the same time.

UNC is still the exact same school it was a hour ago.

edit: Although I think the t14 designation means something to people who go to/went to UT, to lay people and people that don't live in Texas, GT still wins.

This makes me sick to my stomach. I'm weighing Emory, UNC, and UT and want UNC to be perfect. UT is now a T14, holy crap, I got into a T14 that I simply cannot afford, meanwhile my other options have slipped significantly. I feel like I just got punched in the stomach and pat on the back at the same time.

UNC is still the exact same school it was a hour ago.

I seriously hate these damn rankings. I liked when I was painfully unaware that law school was not like grad school--that you didn't go to a school because they have a good specialty program. Oh well, guess it's the reality. I was hoping UNC would gain, not sure why they went down. Really, the placement is negligible for 28 vs 30.

Yeah 28 and 30 is really negligible. Texas is still going to get treated like it is not a T14, rankings don't matter. Biggest winner of the rankings, however, is UC-Davis. 23? They are not as selective as the rest of that crew.

Yeah I was really surprised by that, too, but I'm really happy for them. :\ Weird how it works out that Texas is more expensive OOS than UC Davis.

I think this probably has a lot to do with the employment numbers, which have significantly lowered since last year and are now both listed with big red LOWs next to them. And you remember the speech the dean of career services made at the CS Q&A, Innernetp -- UNC doesn't game the system, whereas a lot of schools do. Maybe it's better to look at the column that says "Assessment score by lawyers/judges" since it seems like it's their opinions that would matter the most. In that column, UNC is ahead of Emory, UCLA, Minnesota, WUSTL, W&L, W&M, GW, Boston College, Boston University, Notre Dame, UC Davis, and a few others that according to the official US News rankings are tied with or ahead of UNC.

Really, it made my stomach feel weird for a second too, but in the end it's really not important.

How do you guys see the info? Are you paying for the premium version, or are you just clicking the names of each school and reading the free info? Yes, I think UNC has ALOT going for it reputation-wise.

I'm biased as a UNC student, but for what it's worth US News rankings are relatively meaningless and certainly don't matter as much as how well you do in classes. Yeah, we're not Harvard, but who wants to be Harvard? Damn Crimson couldn't even beat Princeton. Laaaame. Seriously though, just as with undergraduate, if you focus too much on the rankings at the expense of how well the school fits you you're missing the point of school.

Yeah. Y'all are all making very valid points. What bugs me is that I'm actually a gigantic advocate for Carolina for undergrad and I could not give a crap what our ranking is, and the same things that draw me to the school for undergrad seem alive and well at the law school... This is so corny, but when I went on the tour and they showed me the little pro-bono chart where people are competing against each other in hours was pretty much when I was like, okay, Carolina is not kidding when it says it is committed to public service. That is the type of intangible that really impresses me.

Still, I think it's my love for the school that hates to see it drop at all. I was hoping it would move up but perhaps what beccabea says is true. They really, really don't fudge the numbers.

Also, I don't have a premium account so I wasn't aware about those evaluations. Good stuff.

Oh, and yeah, I have the premium version. My sister gave it to me as a Christmas gift.

Yeah, I figured some people had premium. Wish I had it for kicks, but I can't justify buying it at this point.

edit: I did get the book at BN early in my process, just to get familiar with the types of schools I should apply to and where they were located.
