Got put on reserve. Very excited. I don't have Columbia #'s. Does this mean I have a shot?

Yes but obviously the numbers will determine what kind of a "shot"flexityflex86 wrote:Got put on reserve. Very excited. I don't have Columbia #'s. Does this mean I have a shot?

held also this morning. Does that just mean hold tight for the rejection in May?

Holds this late just proves that we aren't in "active considering" but we are in a pile to be re-reviewed late march. Haha

Wait, isn't a hold basically granting a re-review?glitched wrote:Holds this late just proves that we aren't in "active considering" but we are in a pile to be re-reviewed late march. Haha

Re: Columbia 2011!
Ooh just found a new little piece of info that I had not seen yet on the Admissions website...
Candidates for regular admission should submit their application as soon as possible after September 1, 2010. Applications are not evaluated by our Admissions Committee until all required materials have been received and are generally evaluated in the order in which they are completed, a review process which begins in November. Candidates who have completed their applications by the end of December may expect to be notified by March.
That means only 16 more days until us very early forgotten applicants can legit harass them for blowing us off!!!

If you call them, though, they say decisions will be sent out through the end of April.

Re: Columbia 2011!
I wonder what the difference between being forgotten and being held is. Clearly there are people who wait much longer than I did without being held. I submitted my app ~2 months ago and was held today. I would have assumed that no decision = still under active consideration. So why do some people get held and others not? Any idea what the difference is?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Yes, decisions on applications that were submitted prior to the February deadline. Having found this, I can call them at the end of March and quote the website and maybe they will be forced to explain why they are not adhering to the "decision by March for apps submitted by December" policy with my appincompetentia wrote:If you call them, though, they say decisions will be sent out through the end of April.

I have no idea, hence the frustration. It seems like lawmonkey, incompetentia, I and a few others are being de facto "held," which I find to be a little unfair. If they are really planning to not give us a decision at a time that accords with when we submitted our apps (since they "generally review applications in the order in which they are received"), then why didn't they just hold or reserve us like they did with so many others?
edit: Yesterday marked the 5 month anniversary of when I submitted and thus I am now officially losing my mind
edit 2: I know "5 month anniversary" is not technically the correct way of saying that but I'm drawing a blank...

Re: Columbia 2011!
Have we considered the possibility that we're being reviewed by different people? Maybe the people who have gotten held already were reviewed initially by people who are a lot quicker - and the rest of us forgotten are just with someone who is really slow... that would account for the lack of apparent order

Held today via e-mail. Is it typical for the hold letters to include a mention that you are part of a "select group" within the hold list?

I don't think it means there's any special group within the holds, I think the dean just means that the hold group is the select group.

Everybody's special. They applied to Columbia. Clearly, this means that they are destined for great things.

Hey guys, so if I'm held, would a Why Columbia or a LOCI be more appropriate? Nothing new has happened since I applied in January, so I'm not sure what I'd convey in a LOCI.

An LOCI embedded with the elements of a 'Why Columbia'. Essentially stating your desire to go to CLS, coupled with programs CLS offers that you believe are specifically geared towards your future career goals.jrose5 wrote:Hey guys, so if I'm held, would a Why Columbia or a LOCI be more appropriate? Hate to break it to the other holds like myself, but based on some research into last year's hold results, things may not be looking up for us.
Most people got into the WL.

Based purely on the fact that your profile says you got into Harvard and Stanford I don't think you have anything to worry about. Come to think of it, why do you care if you get into Columbia?archie&veronica wrote:And still no news for me (submitted in October)

Re: Columbia 2011!
I think a majority of the people here have accepted this real possibility. However, this year seems to be a bit different than cycles past. It seems as though CLS held a pretty substantial number of applicants this time around, many of them, based on past data would have likely been admitted. The size of the hold pool, as well as information conveyed to the forums from other TLSers leads me to believe that CLS might engage this year's hold applicants a little more actively. Now, to be fair I understand that TLS is a small and self-selecting sample. I've basically convinced myself that my next choice for law school would make me 110% happy, which it truly would. If I swing CLS, all the better. If not, thats fine too. But I do believe the held candidates will get a lot more admit love than we've seen before.jrose5 wrote:Hate to break it to the other holds like myself, but based on some research into last year's hold results, things may not be looking up for us.Most people got into the WL.
