Sup guys why is PS so hard

Second that. I wrote my first one and absolutely hated it. I've decided to use it as a sacrifice to the admissions gods in exchange for a fresh batch of creativity. Drum circle starts tonight at sundown

I did the exact same thing, felt the exact same way, wrote a different one, hated it less. So now I basically have one which is so broad that it's not compelling at all, and one that's pretty specific and interesting but doesn't really tell much about me. Why can't there be a happy medium??

Similar PS struggles. The draft I'm going with is the latter option -- specific (hopefully interesting?) but doesn't say loads about me. It's a tough call but I think I would rather go narrow and focused over having a sort of broaaaaaaaaddd vague essay rife with platitudes. IDK! It's annoying! I want to be done!

Heyyyyyy pret! I'm inclined to think the same thing, going with a marginally interesting story to at least keep the adcomm from falling asleep, but I'm not sure that this particular story gives much of an impression of me as a human :shrug emoji:

Right? On the flip side, I'm not sure personal statements really move the needle that much unless they're outstanding or terrible. If you aren't writing a great one, just don't write a bad one.

Oh god I know this feeling. I'm on PS #4..? I think the one I have is pretty good now but still. Like I've written 20-30 pages for a 2 page essay. Guess that's what happens when you haven't written outside of a professional setting for years.
