Berkeley focus requires broad applications cuz they give most of their $ through matching

There's a CalCentral page and then there's an admitted students website which has all of the stuff. Are you just looking at the former?stressball2015 wrote:I created my login and there is nothing there. And I mean nothing. Looks like we have to find our own housing in Berkeley during the admitted students event. Anyone interested in splitting a nearby airbnb or something?

I applied but I am still waiting to hear back from Berkeley. About how many of these scholarships are awarded annually?Draconem wrote:Has anyone who applied for the BLOS been accepted in general?

Also interested in this. I really want to go to ASW but I have never been to the Bay area, but I'm hesitant to go and have to pay for a hotel.RationalHeretic23 wrote:Looks like we have to find our own housing in Berkeley during the admitted students event. Re: Berkeley C/O 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
My main thought is that you're possibly going to end up spending tens of thousands of dollars that you don't need to on law school. If you can get into Berkeley, chances are you could get money at one of the ten schools they match scholarships for, and even the minor commitment of time to tailor your application for those schools could be worth very large sums of money. Your commitment to attending Berkeley notwithstanding, the idea that only applying to Berkeley this year will be beneficial in some way is simply not true in any sense other than the fact that you have saved yourself whatever time it would take to fill out the application on the LSAC website and retool your personal statement. Especially this year, where it's possible that reverse splitters are going to fare better than splitters for many schools, applying broadly with a high GPA and an LSAT near median could have possible netted you a considerable amount of offers.Keilz wrote:My LSAT probably isn't strong enough for scholarships through their matching program. I know this process is more holistic than the others, and I think my background, experience and interests match really well with Berkeley, so I applied to this one only this year because I really like it. If I don't get in, I will retake the LSAT and apply again next year, with other schools, for money. I know it's not a traditional move, but since I'm right on the cusp of the T-14, etc. LSAT medians, I didn't want to take my chances, apply to 14 schools and only maybe get into like one at sticker, and then have to reapply to all of them again the next year. I would rather go here at sticker, or have the opportunity to retake and get better scholarship chances next cycle. I guess it's kind of like applying ED but without the binding contractPo$eidon wrote:ThisNagster5 wrote:wut? Not even a few others for scholly leverage or a safety?Keilz wrote:

I'm interested in hearing your thoughts!
If I were you, I would at least put applications in for three or four schools that Berkeley matches scholarships for before the end of the month. If you get in to a single one of those schools and they offer you a scholarship, it will have been worth it, possibly to the tune of a year or two's tuition cost.

Anyone else having trouble getting the 'checklist' link to work on CalCentral? I'm trying to get more info on the matching scholarship program but the link times out when I click it. I'm using Chrome, and the ASW registration form is working. Thanks

To get the matching scholarship form, I went to the admitted students website and got it from the link there. It wouldn't work for me in CalCentral.KiltedKicker wrote:Anyone else having trouble getting the 'checklist' link to work on CalCentral? I also applied but just got pushed to FR so I do not know what that means for the BLOS. Also I'm pretty sure not many BLOSs are awarded (I cannot back this up however, because I cannot find the exact number on their website).MrR10 wrote:I applied but I am still waiting to hear back from Berkeley. Re: Berkeley C/O 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
Hmm, that's not very many. I believe their website states that about 17% of their most recent class are first-gen students. I would assume that most, if not all, would have applied for BLOS.lebongenre wrote:If I recall correctly, last year was the first year the scholarship was awarded, and there were 5 recipients. Not sure how many were interviewed though.skimmilk wrote:I also applied but just got pushed to FR so I do not know what that means for the BLOS. Anyone have any thoughts on submitting matching scholarship offers now versus waiting? I have a large offer from Michigan and think I should submit it now versus waiting to hear from other schools, curious to hear what others think though. I'm very seriously considering Michigan, but I've gotten into several other higher ranked schools and feel like a large offer from one of them might be more compelling to Cal. Any help is appreciated
