^Lol at all of this^pulstar1 wrote:and you do notice that quite a few people who gun exclusively for HLS turn out to be self-absorbed dbags like the attorney you are describing. Just his GF and sometimes his boss. Basically everyone else hated him because he was a self absorbed dbag.pulstar1 wrote: Yeah and also I saw this documentary on USA about a law firm that only hires from HLS. Im assuming that a lot of the most prestigious firms are like this. There was one girl from Columbia Law that was allowed to work as an attorney at this firm but she had already been a paralegal there for a long time and essentially had to blackmail the managing partner into allowing her to work as an associate there despite the fact that she didnt go to H. It just goes to show how much clout an HLS degree carries compared to other schools.
In all seriousness, with my stats I would be extremely lucky to get into Columbia, let alone Harvard.

yeah it's more about socioeconomic background than it is about your actual race.
Her dad went to HLS though. Is there no legacy boost at HLS?

I don't know. It was all very confusing, especially since she had super unique WE as a paralegal.pulstar1 wrote:She had multiple low LSAT scores though so maybe that could have worked against herDirigo wrote:Half-AA I think. Fuck. I thought we were getting somewhere. This would have opened up some good avenues for elucidation. As of now, justification is still murky. "I want to go into politics." "good connections."DetroitRed wrote:.

I'm talking out of my ass but you get the picture of the kind of detail that I think is warranted in this discussion.
I think maybe I need to query current HLS students.

I just want to go to Harvard b/c that's where elle woods met her perfect husband
eta: but I might want to revise that judgment if I learn more about the percentage of students at H who share the character defects that LSATneurotic exhibits

Just had my interview today, and my interviewer said they had barely started looking into the pool of candidates they plan to eventually interview. So don't give up, friends! Many more JS1's to come

I personally don't. All I was trying to find out was if being an insufferable elitist striver would up my friend count.

I just had my interview today and my interviewer said since they just started interviewing last week that it would still be a while before decisions come out...
Hopefully that doesn't mean I bombed it.

I think an HLS degree will open more doors (or perhaps the same doors with greater frequency) vs. a degree from Columbia/Chicago, and I think this is certainly true w/r/t the most prestigious legal positions (SCOTUS clerk, USAO, etc.).
At the same time, there's nothing to say HLS grads with prestigious joba wouldn't have gotten them but for the name on their degree. I mean, part of the reason that Yale College has so many more Rhodes Scholars, for instance, than Grinnell is that high-achieving, gunner-ish students tend to go to places like Yale more so than Grinnell. Would these grads have had the same outcomes if they'd gone to, say, Kenyon? I think there's good reason to think they would.
So yeah, I think that while HLS by name alone will carry you farther than other law schools, ultimately it's on you. If you bust your ass at a less prestigious school like Columbia, I'm sure you'll do just as well. There's nothing Harvard students have access to that CCN categorically don't.

I did not have JS, I had an associate director. And I was also told it would be awhile before decisions come out, so I think that may be something they say to everyone at this pointLetsGoMets wrote:Congrats to you guys for being done with your interviews. Can't lie, I would shamelessly use an HLS admit to pick up women. If NFL players can use their wealth and social cache to take advantage of groupies, why can't a humble, striving student like myself take advantage of ivy league prestige?pulstar1 wrote:It will not up your friend count.Colonel_funkadunk wrote: Hey now, let's find out if they have friends before painting in a negative light.
