In via phone call on Friday. Received an email today telling me I'm on the waitlist. Something tells me they're having issues.

Virginia doesn't like URMs nearly as much as, say, Michigan. I mean, I am almost positive you'd be in there.

Waitlisted. 3.79 & 157. URM. To be expected.
Since I want to stay in MN, looks like I will go to William Mitchell (full tuition) or St. Thomas (full tuition).
Congratulations on all of the acceptances!!!!

soph, i'm almost positive you were a YP. or UMN is a racist redneck, but that's not as likely. like i said before (if you didn't catch it) UVA doesn't favor URMs as much as Michigan, and they are similarly ranked programs. Michigan also tends to be a little more LSAT biased than UVA. I think you should try for Michigan - I would be shocked if you didn't get in, probably with $$ (with a good application)sojasoph wrote:and it looks like they really dislike 170spaulinaporizkova wrote:WHOA! didn't realize UMN had such a huge bias for 167s.chrisbru wrote:Check out the LSN graph now... Thanks. there was just this other applicant with a 179/3.3 AA male that got $140,000 at UVA so I though at least I would get accepted. And I have a strange affinity towards UMN.paulinaporizkova wrote:soph, i'm almost positive you were a YP. or UMN is a racist redneck, but that's not as likely. like i said before (if you didn't catch it) UVA doesn't favor URMs as much as Michigan, and they are similarly ranked programs. Re: Minnesota 2011
Interesting stats, according to LSN:
<167 - 10 acceptances 36%; 10 denials 36%; 8 waitlist 29% - Pretty decent distribution
167-169 - 30 acceptances 97%, 1 waitlist 3% - Umm.... WHAT?!
170+ - 7 acceptances 47%, 8 waitlist 53% - How does this even make sense?
The craziest stat here is this:
LSAT 170 exact - 1 accept, 10 waitlist. GPAs range from 3.3 to 3.98.
LSAT 167 exact - 16 accept, 1 waitlist. GPAs range from 3.0 to 4.1
This is the definition of YP.

Re: Minnesota 2011
UMN has every right to YP. pretty much every school does it up to the top 6 (really up to the top 3). it's rather smart - they know who they are for the most part and they know who will want to go - unfortunately sometimes they're wrong.chrisbru wrote:Interesting stats, according to LSN:

i'll say one more thing: glancing at UVA's numbers and considering you are an AA male, i wouldn't be surprised if UVA YP'ed you as well. probably figured you'd go to a t6 at least. There's a reason why MVP are the "YP Trio"sojasoph wrote:He was HYP. 167 was a well-known cut-off point for UMN last year too.

Re: Minnesota 2011
Looking at LSN I don't see this distribution at all last year. 172 and higher only 7 to the WL. 12 at 170 and higher.LeDique wrote:167 was a well-known cut-off point for UMN last year too.

Re: Minnesota 2011
I got a call from an unknown number at 4:30 PM ET.
Checked voicemail after work.
In! -- Regular Decision, LSAT around 50 percentile;
GPA under 75h percentile. Non-URM.
Thanks, Minnesota! =)
