Re: TLS c/o 2020 Applicants
The most I've seen is "Attending on a full tuition scholarship" which is pretty obnoxious especially when I've seen it for multiple schools ranked 150 or lower. Of course most people think attending law school is prestigious by itself.Dr.Degrees_Cr.Cash wrote:Ewwwwwwdclaw93 wrote:I know someone who mentioned their school's rank and the $$ they got...proteinshake wrote:and make sure your mention your school's rank (I know someone that actually did this lol)azaleafire wrote:I think two options are least annoying - have a friend make a post for you (very common in my circles) or do the updates life event on your timeline.Dr.Degrees_Cr.Cash wrote:What's the call on FB post for committing vs not?

I made a whole ass Facebook post announcing my decision. I even thanked Beyoncé. I don't care. I'm proud and unashamed

I love the schadenfreude of the cringe post, but if it's like >20 I will love it even more. If you're gonna brag it at least has to be really pretentious, there's nothing worse than a misplaced sense superiority

Social media is for cute animal pics. Anything beyond that is garbage and will result in me unfollowing/hiding/blocking/etc.

Yours was awesome in that it was so unashamed and earnest. I feel like if I make one it will sound so gross and insincere. Also I can't frame a photo to save my life so I wouldn't even be able to lean on thatStephylynette wrote:I made a whole ass Facebook post announcing my decision. I even thanked Beyoncé. I don't care. I would post: "Finally made my decision, XXXX!"
I have talked to so many people about this process that I see it more as an update to my life for them, not random facebook peeps (although I will not hate the likes).

That is way too common and needs to stop. What you think we won't believe that you got into this school? If you really want to include something use like an admitted students packet or piece of swag, at least that's more subtle and usually looks better than your boring ass 3 paragraph letterMonday wrote:I've seen pictures of acceptance letters as part of the "announcement" also. It made me feel filthy just by looking at it.

I've been keeping a pretty tight lid on it because I'm paranoid about it getting out before I've given notice and having to be homeless for a month, so I don't think much of even my real friends know that I'm going or where. Plus I'm vain AF and posts like that are just free positive internet reinforcement.jjcorvino wrote:I would post: "Finally made my decision, XXXX!"

woof, even now, when asked, I don't like talking about Duke's rank. The only people it will matter to probably know it, if you don't I feel like you won't be impressed with 10 (or 11, or whatever it was when they got in).proteinshake wrote:current studentDr.Degrees_Cr.Cash wrote:0L or current student?proteinshake wrote: they're actually a Duke student loooool
Not saying I'm not amped at how good the school is, it just doesn't matter to people outside of the legal field, and inside the field they all have some idea where it stands

I feel like going to law school, especially one of the best law schools in the country, is one of the best and most acceptable time to throw up a brag post on Facebook. I can't imagine anyone actually thinking that a Facebook post about law school is pretentious

I think the pretentiousness comes from the tone of the post more than the posting of it in and of itself. i.e. "i am so excited and humbled to officially announce" like anybody gives two shits/has been waiting on pins and needles about your "official announcement." but that's my feeling about ANYTHING on fb, not just about law school.RParadela wrote:I feel like going to law school, especially one of the best law schools in the country, is one of the best and most acceptable time to throw up a brag post on Facebook. Exactly, people post the smallest things on social media. They post pictures at concerts, sporting events, their new car, and anything else you can think of. Why is posting about a major life decision somehow pretentious?RParadela wrote:I feel like going to law school, especially one of the best law schools in the country, is one of the best and most acceptable time to throw up a brag post on Facebook. Re: TLS c/o 2020 Applicants
Going to law school where I come from is a pretty big deal. I worked hard learning how to take the LSAT and getting a good score, I worked hard on applications. I've spent hundreds of hours reading about the risks of law school, about the type of work I am interested in doing, I've spent ages reading about prestige rankings, I've heard the phrase "t14" a million times by now.Stephylynette wrote:I made a whole ass Facebook post announcing my decision. Maybe in a social atmosphere where law school / med school / business school is commonplace, announcing your acceptance at schools or your full scholarship is tacky.
But I'm just going to be excited and show off to family and friends for like two milliseconds out of this whole harrowing process.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
