yeah I'm really worried about having to pay sticker. someone with the same numbers as me got over 100K from Duke, NU, Berk, and Michigan, but nothing from UVA. I think UVA realizes it's the best (at least in terms of placement I guess) among its peers and uses that to its advantage? not really sure but its hella weird.
I think UVA has just a diff scholarship strategy. Instead of a bunch of medium-sized scholarships, offer a few huge ones to boost numbers.
At the dinner, the financial aid director verbatim said this. She said they don't give out schollies under around $25,000 a year because they like for them to be meaningful rather than a slap in the face. Although, a small slap in the face couldn't hurt...
I'll just email them letting them know I won't mind. but forreal, 20k/year is $60k, I wouldn't consider that a slap in the face! according to MyLSN someone got $60k total so that gives me hope.

What makes you say UVA is the best among its peers in terms of placement?
I guess its just stronger than its peers in what are the two most important categories for most applicants (at least I think) -- fed clerking and much stronger big law placement in DC while also easily placing in NYC. I'm not saying its drastically different, but I definitely think there's a difference.
I see. Thanks!

re: travel stipends

Dean Faulk mentioned it to me in passing at the end of the interview, never mentioned it again. A week after I came home from my visit I had a check in my mailbox covering the cost. UVA is awesome

I did Skype, but it was worded like you could kind of choose - with the preference being Skype

Accepted at the end of my interview with Dean Faulk today!

LSAT at 75%; GPA between 25/50%
Applied: 10/28
Interview: 11/16

He was seriously the most lovely man - do not fret if he is your interviewer!

At a cursory glance of UVA's scholarship info page, it seems to imply a Dillard scholarship is $1 mil... surely I'm reading this incorrectly?

Hmmm same stats; interviewed a couple of weeks ago, and am still waiting to hear back.

Did you learn by mail, phone, or e-mail?

I believe the page you're referring to is on their alumni giving site. If I understood it correctly, that page is saying that if you want to endow a batch of Dillard scholarships, you have to donate in increments of $1M.
