There is really no reason not to submit a Why UVA. UVA cares about demonstrated interest probably more than any other school in the T14, and just the act of writing and submitting one works toward that. Sure, some people will get in without one (especially those with in-range stats), but it's only going to help your app to include it. That said, find a program/faculty member/clinic/journal/SOMETHING that you can say relates to your interests. I think anyone can do that; I'm not advocating for people to submit something so generic that you could find/replace Michigan in the document and it would still make sense.

Tl;dr UVA cares about yield. Like, a lot.

When I submitted my app, I didn't understand the importance placed on the Why essay by UVA. I was advised to just wait awhile and submit it later to show continued interest in case I landed on the WL. Should I wait to see if that happens? I am very interested in UVA. All my numbers are within range, but I'm certainly not an eye-popping candidate. Would it help me more to go ahead and submit one with some explanation like: "I've been doing additional research into UVA Law and have been blown away by everything I've read. In light of this, I feel like my application would benefit from the following additional material."

Or do I just wait it out and write one in case of a possible WL scenario?

Hi guys checking in. Submitted 9/4 and went under review 9/9, but my UR date changed last week. Has anyone who's UR date changed heard anything back yet? Just casually going crazy here.
