Re: Harvard Waitlist 2017 - WITH SPREADSHEET!
Hello All - frequent lurker and checking in for the HLS summer WL wild ride!
Bummed not to see any WL movement today. Do you think admissions is waiting to see who accepted/declined JS2's from yesterday and will reach out to a few more individuals next week? Maybe they aren’t pulling substantially from the WL this year? Also are people still under the perception that the "homework" for the most recent JS1s (Post WL) is the same thing as a JS1b? Super quiet today…Good luck to everybody! Waiting is the hardest part.

My guess is we'll see some action next week. It's a little late today, but ya never know.

I find it hard to believe they would have done all those interviews last week if they didn't expect to pull heavily from them. So while I'm a little concerned that there wasn't any action today, I still expect us post-WL will be in for some good news.

I agree with this. And also why would they create so much admin for themselves by assigning homework tasks if they weren't strongly considering giving JS2s to post WL JS1s. I may be completely off the mark but that's what I tell myself for reassurance.corporatebarbarian wrote:I find it hard to believe they would have done all those interviews last week if they didn't expect to pull heavily from them. Historically it's very likely that post-WL JS1s and JS1bs get in. It's rare to see someone who had an interview this late and wasn't admitted. I'm sure the vast majority of y'all are in for good news soon if not today.

Would anyone really turn down a JS2 after one day, given that they already sort of had to state their commitment to Harvard in their JS1 or JS1b?jsmither wrote:Hello All - frequent lurker and checking in for the HLS summer WL wild ride!

I think there will be action next week, at least for some WL JS1s. Hoping more JS1bs go out too.

Do all JS2s off the WL receive a JS1b?

In last year's spreadsheet all but one person who reported a JS2 also reported a JS1b, while this cycle all who reported apre-WL JS1 ---> WL JS2 have had a JS1B .radikal_eyes wrote:Do all JS2s off the WL receive a JS1b?
There have been post-WL JS1s---->JS2s this cycle who reported getting in without the typical JS1b call, but they did have the 'homework' which is very similar.

Is last year's class size (564) pretty typical of HLS?

Hey guys - just thought I'd let you know what I heard from the admissions office yesterday. I received a JS1b voicemail and called Danielle Early to confirm my interest, and she explained to me in the call that Thursday was the only day for offers in this wave, and they expect to probably have another in a couple weeks. Of course this could be a conservative guess on their part, and if someone who received a JS2 on Thursday turned it down yesterday (unlikely), there could be a couple more before then. Sorry to those of you who were waiting intently for Monday.

crap
When was your JS1? And if anyone else talks to Danielle maybe you could ask her what she didn't like about drawstring's interview

Re: Harvard Waitlist 2017 - WITH SPREADSHEET!
JS1 was in January. JS1b came sometime between Tuesday and Thursday - I can't know exactly when because my voicemail doesn't save that info. I am really, really upset that I didn't find the voicemail until after the offer wave on Thursday, since DE pretty much told me that I wasn't considered for one of those spots was because I didn't call her back. The kicker is that the reason I didn't get it in time was because she called my old phone number instead of the new one I sent to them last week for while I'm out of the country. I just cannot right now.drawstring wrote:crap

oh damn you missed the wave? I'm really sorry to hear that schnaupal---you're probably a lock for the next wave though!
Do you have any idea if she's the one choosing the spots?

So basically the cycle is over for most of us except for a few super lucky ones
It's surprising that they pull so little from the waitlist this year. #theluck

I don't think there's reason for so much pessimism. Doesn't harvard regularly admit a quarter of its class off the waitlist? I bet the next may wave will be as large as the last one, if not larger. Keep in mind that there could also be Harvard students who opt for Yale or Stanford when they got off their own waitlists. And maybe now is the time to send more info to keep your application at the top of the pile- I think the risk of lookin over eager is far outweighed by the reward of standing out from the anonymous stacks.frazzz wrote:So basically the cycle is over for most of us except for a few super lucky ones

Re: Harvard Waitlist 2017 - WITH SPREADSHEET!
I very much agree with the keeping your info updated part; I sent two LOCIs (one month apart) and I do think that without them it would have been hard to stand out among many people with better numbers or went to way better undergrad than me. My second loci didn't even contain any update, it was basically a reiteration of interest, because my first loci already covered all the updates I had.nothingtosee wrote:I don't think there's reason for so much pessimism. Re: Harvard Waitlist 2017 - WITH SPREADSHEET!
Do our files get bumped to the top when we update them? I've already sent in multiple updates and I don't see how they wouldn't already think that I'm very committed to Harvard.
Also, I'm still yet to see any JS1bs go to October-November JS1s and only one reported has gone to a 2013 JS1. Why even put all those early applicants on the WL if they're going to overwhelmingly draw from people with applied or interviewed in the second half of the cycle
I feel like this point my chances are pretty much 0...all dat waiting and stress for nothing.
