Yeah, I'd never choose a school based on aesthetics (weather maybe) but I was curious.

Can you speak to how the job search is going? Also, the makeup of the class as far as age, WE, etc. I'll be 28 when I start and have been out of school since '06.

Age
A healthy mix. Ive been out of school for a few years (though not quite as many as you), and there are certainly plenty of people who are older than me. The young people tend to hang out with each other and the older people kinda do the same.

Racial diversity
Very few african americans. Hispanic is the largest URM group.

Socio-Economic
Maybe this is the case for all law schools, but I was genuinely surprised by how wealthy people seem. A lot of really nice cars in the student garage.

Job Search
I can't speak to firms outside of Texas, but if you want big law in TX, UT is just about as good as it gets. It seems as though every partner I've met went to UT. Firms seem receptive to my apps so far (full disclosure, I'm in the top 5-10%).

Thanks for that info....the separation bothers me, as does the info on African Americans. The school was my top choice at the beginning of the cycle. I'm just going to have to wait and see how my visit goes.

I know they recruit us heavily so i'm interested in why African Americans choose to go elsewhere.

I'm moving with an SO so we're definitely hoping to stay in Texas, hopefully even in Austin since he'll be getting a job there.

I should have mentioned this before: my observations are limited to my experiences in one section. I've heard that each section has its own vibe. There may be a different group dynamic in each one.

I'm not entirely sure how hard it is, due to the self selection aspect. I will say that the general consensus is that NYC is hiring more students than just about any other market, so people at UT are bidding there more now. I know a few people that are going to NYC, but not a whole lot. Again, it could be self selection bias. Most of my friends that are 2Ls and 3Ls are Texas natives on LR, so they have their pick of jobs in their home state. No real reason to leave. That being said, if you have the grades, I see no reason why you couldn't get NYC.

I'm in the same boat as you with the hold from ED. However my lsat is a bit lower and GPA a bit higher. Hope to get a call soon.

I was admitted to my top choice in less time (Berkeley in 10 days) than it took UT to send me the email. Didn't think I would ever get in to my top choice.

Love UT, but I want something different away from Texas.
