Re: Brooklyn Law School 2011 Cycle
Uhhh..I withdrew over a month ago from Brooklyn - and they JUST sent me an e-mail upping my scholarship by $12,100 to $38,000/year. I never even tried to negotiate scholarship money with them, which is why this is so surprising. I guess this means they have extra money and they are still looking to fill up their class, I hope someone else here gets it!

Same. I just got an email they want to up my scholarship from $26k to $38k. That's lucrative... not going there but still, that's a nice email to get.

Same here, mine just became a full ride....if they throw in housing too, I won't lie, I might have to reconsider.

Eesh yeah, will think about it over the weekend for sure. I just put down my deposit for Boston U yesterday, and currently waitlisted @ NYU and Michigan...was somewhat happy to be done with this whole mess.

If so, well done. I withdrew from there as well, but like you, absolutely love the Bay area, just couldnt get up the guts to move to the west coast.

Re: Brooklyn Law School 2011 Cycle
Yep, thanks! I already deposited a while ago, otherwise I would maybe consider Brooklyn with the new scholly offer. I'm from SF but went to high school and college on the east coast, so I'm happy to be back in my hometown for law school.patallica22 wrote:

Yeah, 37 to 42. Looks like they have some extra $ to throw around.

Ditto here..just got notified today that they upped it to $42K..still not going, as much as I'd love to live in Brooklyn Heights.aaaaaah wrote:Yeah, 37 to 42. Looks like they have some extra $ to throw around.

Ugh this happened to me too! I got off the WL at BC two hours before BLS sent me a revised scholarship email, increasing the scholly to 42K. I hate this decision-making process. Trying to negotiate with BC now, but still-- 42K is no joke money.

Also got my scholarship upped from 26k to 38k after missing the deposit deadline...making me reconsider slightly, but at the same time, the amount of money being thrown around really concerns me!

Guys seriously: BLS is hemorrhaging money. What does this mean??! Has anyone tried to get that stip lifted?dariamorgendorffer wrote:Also got my scholarship upped from 26k to 38k after missing the deposit deadline...making me reconsider slightly, but at the same time, the amount of money being thrown around really concerns me!

Re: Brooklyn Law School 2011 Cycle
I think they're starting to shell out money because of cases such as mine. I got offered a full ride to go to St. John's, and I got no money to go to George Washington (I'm still waiting but assuming something similar from Fordham). BLS unfortunately is finding itself in a sticky situation. I got offered 30.8K initially - If I'm going to go to a T2 school, I don't see much difference between BLS and SJ, so why wouldn't I take the full ride instead of paying about 35K a year for the COA? Similarly, if I'm going to just bite the bullet and come out with loans, it makes sense to wind up paying just a bit more to have the Fordham or GWU name on my diploma (yes I know GWU is significantly more expensive).sdp259 wrote:Guys seriously: BLS is hemorrhaging money. Point is that they're probably freaking out right now - and they probably fear that the percentage of students that wind up matriculating will either be significantly lower, or that those who do will come with lower gpa/lsat scores.

Re: Brooklyn Law School 2011 Cycle
FWIW, my impression is that BLS does this every year. It's just their strategy -- get people to switch at the last minute with a big offer. Part of the reason they do it is because other schools will have already allocated their scholarship money by the time they offer (another NYC school couldn't up my offer when I told them about BLS because they had already awarded all their money).

I'm very torn also.. full ride to STJ and able to live at home, vs. close to full ride to BLS plus housing... it's about 30k in debt for BLS vs none at STJ. I think I'd prefer BLS in a lot of ways but no debt would be so nice. Decisions decisions....afc1910 wrote:so is anyone whose scholarship was suddenly increased choosing BLS over other schools? i'm pretty torn

Re: Brooklyn Law School 2011 Cycle
I'm in a similar boat, but with Cardozo and BLS. I like Cardozo a bit better, because I think it's a stronger school academically and I just felt a more comfortable there when I visited, but I can't justify the 30k cost difference between the two. If I'm going to a regional school that only places top 10% in biglaw, I need to come out with as little debt as possible. StJ, BLS and Cardozo are all peers when it comes to employment prospects.champ33 wrote:I'm very torn also.. full ride to STJ and able to live at home, vs. close to full ride to BLS plus housing... it's about 30k in debt for BLS vs none at STJ. You should try, and let us know if you succeed. Clearly they have money, and are willing to give it out to get some students with good numbers to enroll.Manash wrote:mine just got upped as well.. even though i didn't pay the deposit. i thought this was an error until i read some of you got the same notification. possible to negotiate for more? that would most likely change my decision.
