Is anybody else going to Iowa's ASD on 3/24-25 and then driving down to Bloomington for IU's on 3/26?

If those were your other options, then no. But based on my own experience, a full-ride at Iowa means 1/2 ride at WUSTL and admit to Vandy/Cornell/etc., and that sways the decision in my opinion.chrisbru wrote:This is irrelevant for almost every person on TLS... However, I feel I am already going to be so focused on grades that the "added" stress worrying about a scholarship will be only marginally higher than if I didn't have a stipulation attached to it.
There is no way that I can imagine taking $120k in debt at WUSTL with no stips to be a better idea than full at Iowa.
Or there's my TTT full-ride with no stips at St. Thomas.

Details? Or are us lowly 0L's not welcome yet?nightman09 wrote:+Slimpee wrote:Oooh, that's going to be a fun weekend in IA City...there may or may not be a professional school bar crawl...... excited to meet you guys at ASD!!!
I'm also adding myself to the "warm fuzzies" group... I'm getting between 1-2 emails a day directed at my interests, and some of my schools can't even do me the courtesy of spelling my name right. Point Iowa!
SIDE NOTE -- how're people feeling about the April 1 first seat deposit deadline? Is it just me, or is that seriously early?

ETA: Due to my desire to be close to my girlfriend and family, I only applied to schools in Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Colorado. I would have gone to UMN if it was a competitive offer... But full ride in Iowa is great for me. I don't mind being in Des Moines when I graduate, although i'll try for Minneapolis, Chicago, and Denver as well.

Stop sending me letters Iowa, unless they are to offer me money.
I feel exactly the same way. I'm considering sending them an email to ask about it... at this point, I have nothing to lose because I certainly wont attend without any $.

Prelim waitlister here trying to stay positive! For those out there who have any clue, when do you think we will find out if we go to normal waitlist? Or will nothing change until I get the rejection letter in like September, which I've heard happens. It'd just be nice to know I haven't been forgotten about after 2. 5 months of waiting

According to staff in admissions, I have not been awarded a scholarship at this time. 3.67 169 oos

Wow. If you haven't, then I'm doomed. And does "at this time" mean that you could still be awarded one at some point?

Re: IOWA 2011
IIRC, prelim waitlisters should be either admitted or waitlisted around March 15. So you should know something mid-month. If you get "regular waitlisted" at that point, it could be anytime between April 1st (first round deposits due) and the time classes start.brupe wrote:Prelim waitlister here trying to stay positive! Sounds to me like they are trying to lock in their in-state requirement. After that's done, they'll probably offer money to people with good stats from out of state.miazdc wrote:Wow. If you haven't, then I'm doomed. And does "at this time" mean that you could still be awarded one at some point?

This.
That is why a bunch of 167+ 3.7+ GPA students from OOS have received nothing so far. Iowa seems to always have problems with their money distribution. Last year they gave it all out in November and then didn't redistribute until April 12/13th. If I were an OOS candidate. Pay your seat deposit and sit on it. If you don't get money in April / May pull the plug unless you really plan on attending.

It is so frustrating how Iowa acts like they would take a bullet for you to attend but then don't offer any $.typ3 wrote:chrisbru wrote:

Don't get me wrong, it's refreshing to see that the school cares, and they have definitely strengthened my consideration to attend because of it. Just don't piss in my pocket by having everyone on staff call me. If we are intelligent enough to get into your law school, we are intelligent enough to see through your attempts to "woo" us.
That is just my cynical side talking.

Re: IOWA 2011
I called them today regarding scholarships, and was given the run around on the phone by a pretty absent minded secretary. Finally I was told there was no one available to talk to me because they were all just too busy. She offered to have someone call me back, so I left my name and number. Later I received a generic voicemail which parroted off the numbers to the UG admissions office as well as the LS admissions office, encouraging me to call back if I had any further concerns, making sure to call the appropriate office. THANKS A BUNCH!

Re: IOWA 2011
I wonder if you could negotiate an extension on the 1st deposit, or a refund if you don't hear about scholarship money before it is due... because honestly I wouldn't pay sticker at any school.
Based on how long some people have been waiting, and how much later I got accepted, it doesn't seem like I'll be hearing anything soon

I got my deposit extended to I think April 15 last year. As I recall I didn't do much besides call and ask.

When I emailed they said I hadn't received a scholarship at this time but that I should check back in 3 weeks. This was not even a week ago. I just wondered, did they tell you that you would not be receiving a scholarship FOR SURE or just that you hadn't received one at this time? I found it weird that they told me to check back but yet they told you that you wouldn't get anything.

The girl I spoke with may have used the wording "at this time." She wasn't generally that friendly and basically just looked up my name said Shr didn't show one and sent me on my way. I plan on waiting it out a couple weeks just in case. I retook the LSAT in Feb, so may as well.

I spoke with someone in admissions and was told that prelim waitlist is the same thing as waitlist...so I don't think we will hear anything

Re: IOWA 2011
Overall, I'm pretty unimpressed with Iowa. They haven't gotten back to me on questions, are taking forever on scholarships, and are just outright rude when I ask questions. Every other school that has accepted me has been more than willing to answer questions and be polite about it.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
