I submitted my app in early November, but somehow only went complete yesterday... Got an interview invite today. I hope the quick timing is a good sign!

With those numbers, I'd say you're more than fine. Good luck!bgt1995 wrote:I submitted my app in early November, but somehow only went complete yesterday... Got an interview invite today. I hope the quick timing is a good sign!

Just got an interview invite. Went complete mid/late November.
75 < LSAT
25 < GPA < 50
Telling myself this can only be a good thing, but I just hate interviews.

What's the consensus on writing a "why Columbia"? Reach candidate here, parents said they'd pay for this app, so I'd figure it's at least worth trying. Located in NY, spoke to alumni from the school, and interested in some of the clinics. Worth writing one? Or will it just end up hurting me since almost everyone would go if accepted there anyway.

I think a Why X would only hurt if it was poorly-written. I'm not sure it will help any, but I don't think just by writing one it will hurt.StopLawying wrote:What's the consensus on writing a "why Columbia"? A Columbia admissions representative came to my school in Oct. and said Why Columbia statements are welcomed as long as they're limited to one page. I agree with brinicolec above, I don't think simply writing one will hurt you. However, if you're going to write one, make sure it is well-written (free of spelling and grammatical errors), and just try to be as genuine as you can in explaining why you want to go to Columbia. These guys have read thousands of these things, they can tell when people write Why X statements without actually putting their heart into it.StopLawying wrote:What's the consensus on writing a "why Columbia"? Has anyone gotten their packet in the mail yet? Also if you have how long did it take from when you got an email?

Haven't they only admitted ED applicants? I read earlier in this thread that RD probably won't happen until the end of this month.zeglo wrote:No action yet for ColumbiaI guess timing isn't everything. Seems random who hears back.

Is the general consensus that you shouldn't email a thank you note to your interviewer?

I don't think it's "You shouldn't" but more of a "It doesn't really matter"VapidP wrote:Is the general consensus that you shouldn't email a thank you note to your interviewer?

Re: Columbia c/o 2020 applicants (2016-2017)
I did because my interviewer told me to reach out to her with any questions I may have and told me how to find her contact info. I didn't do it for my Chicago interview because she didn't say anything like that, and I felt like a weirdo looking for all her info. However, I kind of regret that now, as I received a thank you email back from my Columbia interviewer and it made me feel better.VapidP wrote:Is the general consensus that you shouldn't email a thank you note to your interviewer?
TL;DR: I think it can only help you if you send a thank you letter.

Re: Columbia c/o 2020 applicants (2016-2017)
Had my interview today with Jeb Butler, the Director of Admissions. He was really warm and made me feel at ease. 13/10 for interviewing skillz.
The conversation took a little over 20 minutes, of which 15 was for his questions. He gave an extremely detailed and encouraging answer to one question I asked. His questions were not intimidating at all: asked me about my most recent educational program, why I wanted to come to Columbia, a bit about my work experience, and also something about me as a person beyond what my letters of rec said.
Said decisions would begin coming out by the end of January, but all the people who've interviewed already should expect word soon-ish.
