So that I don't feel like I'm the only one that's going insane, how often do you guys check your status checker on a daily basis?

Damn dude you must be ballin' to be able to pay that much for some advice. SaluteMagnumLifeStyle wrote:Just got dinged as well.
Has anyone else here used the Spivey Consulting service ($2,500)?
I mean..my GPA and LSAT are both above medians and I have substantial softs (5+ years of work experience) but I don't feel like retaining their service (or any other consultant's would) made any difference.
The only Stanford-specific advice I got from them for the price of $2,500 was "Stanford likes Stanford-specific LORs" and that's it.
Jeez, I paid $2,500 for that?

^^ Sorry to hear about this...especially because of your considerable financial investment.
I'm sure that you'll have other incredible options though if you don't have them already, so perhaps ultimately it will be worth it? Though, I and a lot of other folks would have given you that "SLS likes Stanford-specific rec letters" advice for free.

Re: Stanford C/O 2019 Applicants (2015-2016 cycle)
I'm sitting over here thinking about what the best situation is to use an admissions consultant. I think their biggest problem is that law school admissions are not a monolith and the source of their expertise is their experience working in admissions in the schools they worked at. So, Spivey was at WUSTL, Vanderbilt, and Colorado. His various colleagues have deep experiences at a lot of schools (they have a lot of HLS experienced folks), but none have direct experience at the notorious black box schools, like Yale, Stanford and Berkeley. I think it's a hole in their team.
Anyway, I keep thinking, who should use them? A well qualified 0L who spends enough time around here will get more than enough advice they need to (1) accurately assess the strength of their credentials, (2) write a decent application, (3) navigate admissions interviews, (4) execute a LOCI, etc. strategy. Why, other than having the assurance of "expertise", do you need them? As I keep thinking about this, their PS reviews are probably really helpful because they can point out problematic things that people not in the business might not notice and if you had some kind of special circumstance like a delicate C&F issue, I could see their advice in crafting that as being valuable. But, is that worth $2,500?

Regarding SLS specific recommendations: This might be a naïve question but what should these recommendations really say? Also, how effective is it to have the same recommender provide you a Stanford specific recommendation? Does it matter if your recommender is a Stanford alum?

Re: Stanford C/O 2019 Applicants (2015-2016 cycle)
I suppose the idea SLS-specific recommendation would consider specific things about SLS that really suggest you would be a great candidate for admission. And if your recommender is willing, it makes sense to have them write a SLS specific letter. In the worst case, they can just make sure that their letter just specifically mentions Stanford even if it doesn't mention anything that is unique to SLS. It would help a TON to have that SLS specific letter come from an alum because they would be able to write specifically about things at SLS that make you a great fit. If you don't have an SLS alum, don't stress...you can't manufacture one so just do the best you can with what you have available.Erinlily22 wrote:Regarding SLS specific recommendations: This might be a naïve question but what should these recommendations really say? Are folks addressing their LOCI's to Dean Deal, or generic intro?

Re: Stanford C/O 2019 Applicants (2015-2016 cycle)
needs some advice regarding LOCI
1. should I still send one if I did not have any substantial activities since application time
2. should I mention the fact that I have been accepted to a school in the same tier but stanford is still my dream
right now what I could include are how the programs at stanford are a great fit for me...
anything else you guys would recommend me to write in a LOCI?
