Basically it'll probably come down to the Loop or CWE like 99% of people. Also last year they ended up having a "housing concierge" so basically you could send this woman around anywhere you wanted her to check apartments for you, and she could take pics and send them to you of the apartment, tell you what she thought about it and the neighborhood/street, and even tell you how long it took to walk from there to the metro station or whatever you want her to check. I didn't use it since I visited my apartment in March at ASW and signed a lease pretty early, but lots of my friends did since they live far away and they had good things to say about her. We didn't get that email though until closer to the summer though. Also fwiw STL rental market is not competitive, so you don't have to worry about finding housing early unless you're just neurotic like I am.valen wrote:Thank you for the housing info (esp the map)! I will definitely plan on having an extra day to check out neighborhoods when I come down to visit.

Seems like it's been pretty quick with people with strong numbers, and kind of random otherwise.Tr3 wrote:Is there a trend in the number of days between going complete and getting invited for an interview?

Has anyone else done the interview before going complete? I submitted and had my interview two weeks ago (and the adcomm had clearly read my file pre-interview), but am still at "application documents received."

Re: WUSTL c/o 2018 Applicants
On the housing thing: there are other options besides the Loop and CWE. I know plenty of people who live in other areas. The Loop is great if you are 22 and single, but frankly, if you are 27 and married, it probably isn't your scene. There are tons on undergrads around there. If you are a young married couple and don't mind overpaying a bit, CWE is where it's at. Nicer than the Loop, less young kids (undergrads), more upscale, etc. If you have kid(s), and/or are cheap, this probably still isn't your best bet. There are plenty of other areas within 15 minutes driving distance that are nice, affordable, quieter, etc.
Also for anyone who has kids (which I realize isn't many of you), I have heard the University City schools are garbage. I know this would include the Loop, not sure about CWE.
Just wanted to put it out there that you don't HAVE to live in the Loop or CWE and there ARE other options and plenty law students live other places. On the other hand, if you are very in to the "social" aspect a.k.a. bar review, drinking, etc. those two neighborhoods are probably your best bet.

Yea I agree with all of this. I guess I also view everything from a social lens. It's just easier to live in these two neighborhoods if you care about this kind of stuff, because this is where your friends live too. I actually like the loop a lot more than I thought I would and would love to move here next year actually, but I'm not because my best friends don't want to move here and I'd much rather be with them.LET'S GET IT wrote:On the housing thing: there are other options besides the Loop and CWE. The only thing I really don't like about CWE is the lack of people in general. A lot of time the neighborhood is generally dead, despite being the chic/cool neighborhood with lots of bars/restaurants. I prefer hustle and bustle, but this is also STL so that doesn't really exist here.

I live in a small neighborhood in the "Suburbia" area on the map and love it. It's an easy 5-10 minute drive to school and very convenient for shopping etc. That being said, if you are younger and/or more into the social scene I don't recommend it. Feel free to PM me if you want to know more about the areas out here.scottidsntknow wrote:Yea I agree with all of this. I guess I also view everything from a social lens. My husband and I lived in downtown Clayton when we were first married (I was 23 at the time) and we loved it. We stayed until after our first child was born - it was really close to campus if you took Forsythe all the way, and there were tons of restaurants, bars, shopping too - also, people ranged in age from early 20's all the way up. Awesome town!futago wrote:I live in a small neighborhood in the "Suburbia" area on the map and love it. So I just checked my status checker (application still under review) and my current status date changed to 12/1/14. Has this happened to anyone else? Is it a typo?

I checked my status checker but it has today's date. I also just got accepted via email today. I don't know if that has anything to do with it?

Re: WUSTL c/o 2018 Applicants
In via email!! Applied 11/9, Skype interview 11/19. After my interview, I was offered the chance to change my application from RD to ED for a possible full-ride. Decided to keep it RD for various reasons.
First acceptance/news from any school, really, really excited that it's WashU! Also - splitters, there is hope.
On a slightly different note, the email was a congratulatory one from the dean (no further info). Should I respond saying ...thank you/excited about WashU?

Congrats! And yeah keeping it RD was a good call, better to keep your options open. There's no need to respond and it's not expected. Now the fun wait for ~monies~JuanitaFromTheDiner wrote:In via email!! Applied 11/9, Skype interview 11/19. Hey all,
I was admitted on 10/31. Haven't received any scholarship info yet, though. Is getting a scholly offer just something of a waiting game? Or is it worthwhile to contact the school and say, "Yo. I'm interested in attending buuuuuuuut I need that $krilla"?

I noticed ferguson is like 10 miles away from the university. Have protests or any activities affected your classes?

Not as of yet. Once this decision finally comes out though, I'm not sure what's gonna happen. However my last class is tomorrow so classes themselves probably won't be affected, I'm just hoping this doesn't screw up exams at all.valen wrote:I noticed ferguson is like 10 miles away from the university.
