Congrats MDLG!! That new LSAT score is working really well for you!

Wtrc - I'm not sure what H's policy on holding apps for LORs is, but I'm sure it's in the app instructions

Edit - spelling

SO: I am the world's worst interviewee. Anyone have any tips for interviewing? If anyone could post links to their favorites articles on interviewing (ones specifically about the JS1 would be particularly great), that would be amazing.

Also, specific Q: do you guys recommend interviewing sooner rather than later? I can interview within the next couple days, next week, or in a couple weeks. Don't think I'm prepared for this week, and I'd love to put it off, but do I stand a better chance if I do, say, middle of next week?
Stats?

Just had my JS1, Jessica Soban did not interview me and the questions were really general why you want to study law type, the first question was about my resume but I guess it took me too long on that topic so maybe she didn't have the time to ask other specific questions, should have triage my time more efficiently. Did not get asked the why harvard question so maybe I should be worried. But the interviewer was super nice and professional, I calmed down entirely once she started talking. The whole process was 13 minutes and it felt way too short.

Had my interview with JS, it lasted about 17-18 minutes. It was very upbeat and positive. She was pretty enthusiastic, I think. It was really fun! She tries very hard to put you at ease and it's a nice reminder that the people looking at your application are human, too! All my freaking out and anxiety was totally unwarranted. It's really a conversation more than an interrogation.

Stupid question, are Harvard law interviews over the phone or on Skype?

So, thoughts on best interview date? Sooner rather than later?

I'm already overthinking this! I'm afraid if I schedule it for late in the week and/or at a late time, they'll already have spoken with so many great applicants, I'll look terrible in comparison. X)

Schedule it early -- you're going to want to get it over with! I concur with a lot of other posters: these interviews DO NOT require weeks of preparation. Know your resume, know what you provided in your application (I would suggest re-reading any papers you listed for the "Writing" section just in case you're asked about something you wrote a couple of years ago - it will make you feel better if nothing else), know why you want to go to law school, know what you're currently doing. Honestly, that is it! They are fantastic interviewers, it will feel like a conversation not an interview.

I've had 3 interviews and the HLS one was by far the least stressful and most enjoyable. Afterwards I found myself wishing we had more time to talk rather than feeling relief that it was over.

You're not going to look terrible! You'll be fine. I think the day or time of an interview makes very little difference in comparison to how you actually present, but I would go for the earliest day possible at the earliest time or the latest time of that day.

Good feedback, guys, thank you!

Now: any tips for someone with a shitty internet connection and an apartment backdrop that leaves quite a bit to be desired? I was thinking about asking if I can use one of the empty offices where I work to interview and hook up to the ethernet there, but it's a pretty small workplace, and I'm afraid people could overhear me (which would be hella awkward). There's no such things as rental Skype booths, right?

I say do it at your apartment where you have more control over the environment (people won't be walking past or awkwardly coming in) and if the backdrop isn't ideal, temporarily shift your desk for this interview.

Then, when your interview finally starts, boldly introduce yourself as TheMostDangerousLG, TLS forum user.

Hi everyone. I have a silly question for those who scheduled their JS 1s-- did you receive a confirmation email soon after? I scheduled mine but didn't receive one so I'm just paranoid now that it didn't go through or something.

Thanks! Also please feel free to PM if curious about numbers (complete 9/27 or so).

You're definitely overthinking this. I did my interview from my derelict, Soviet-era apartment in rural Western China with a tenuous internet connection at best. The backdrop was my cracked, crumbling concrete walls and the only place to put my PC was atop an air-filter box. Don't worry so much!

The problem is I *know* my internet connection at home can't hold a connection well enough to Skype. I'm unable to video chat from here. So I need to find an alternative, because I'm guessing whoever interviews me doesn't want to do it in five second chunks (where every five second period is divided by ten minutes of trying to reconnect to the internet).

Check out a local library. The nice ones will have private rooms and sometimes you can even reserve them.

Just went complete. Not holding out much hope, but on the off-chance I do receive a JS1, how long does it normally take between going complete and hearing about an interview?

I scheduled mine on a friday and I did not get a confirmation email until next Monday. I don't think the response is automated, so if you booked it over the weekend then you will probably hear back once they start working again.
