Anyone know the likelihood of getting in-state tuition after the first year? How difficult is it to obtain Colorado residency status for tution purposes?

From what I've seen (keep in mind I'm a resident) it's not that hard and most people get in-state for 2L/3L. Will defer to Pufer if I'm wrong, of course!athenian wrote:Anyone know the likelihood of getting in-state tuition after the first year? It is very simple from what I've seen also, if you wanted to become a resident you would have no difficulties doing so.athenian wrote:Anyone know the likelihood of getting in-state tuition after the first year? How difficult is it to obtain Colorado residency status for tution purposes?

Sounds good to me! I travel for work fairly regularly, but so far this spring is looking light on the travel side, so I'm hoping to be around

If CU rejects me, I'll be there March 26th for Denvers! Otherwise, I'm set on March 4th for CU, since it sets a few spots higher on my list. I'll probably try to come in on Thursday so I can visit Denver too though.fundamentallybroken wrote:

Re: CU Boulder 2011
You're not wrong (assuming nothing has changed since I got residency a couple years ago). You basically move here, sign a CO lease (you need a paper trail, so save this stuff), get a CO driver's license, slap CO plates on your car, register to vote here, pay CO taxes the next April, and stay here uninterrupted for 12 months (short vacations are fine, but you probably won't want to be spending every free moment out of state).krad wrote:From what I've seen (keep in mind I'm a resident) it's not that hard and most people get in-state for 2L/3L. They do reject people from time to time, so doing miscellaneous stuff establishing ties with the state—getting a CO phone number, getting new checks with your CO address from a bank that actually has branches here, etc., as soon as you get here—can help if you have to appeal. You should also probably be over 22 (not that there's much you can do about it if you're not), otherwise your 12 month residency period starts on the first day of classes rather than the date on which you moved here.

As someone who is young and OOS, this is really interesting. I'll follow up more about this with someone once I'm actually accepted and stuff...krad wrote:That's interesting to know! Still waiting. I think I'll start blaming my mail carrier - and sit in the window every day, glaring as she drops off the mail...krad wrote:That's interesting to know! In at CU. Thinking reall hard on this one. Denver looks to be an awesome city for the young professionals and the weather in Denver is perfect (sunshine ~350 days a year!!). Midlaw is much more appealing anyways (assuming you do well and a jobless recover becomes less, uh, jobless :/). Plus, just left the mountains and the snow was amazing. Good luck with your decisions everyone.

+1... Although I've begun to suspect my gf. She's home before I am, and I'm convinced she goes to the mailbox, pulls out just the CU mail, leaves the rest so it's not suspicious, and hides it, since she's worried she won't get into CSUfundamentallybroken wrote:

If my SO is home before me (varies; he has odd surgery hours sometimes) he always texts me that there's nothing so I can relax another evening haha. He is just as into it as I am, as I'm sure your SO's are as well!
