Re: American University 2011 Applicants
I'll definitely be there! I'll be coming from NYC on March 31st and staying in DC till April 3rd. I probably can't do the night of the 31st because I'm getting in at 9pm and then I'm staying with a friend in Arlington so it might be inconvenient, but I can definitely do something after the ASD April 1st.gdane wrote:Who's going to be at the april 1st asd?

Yep, same to me! Waitlisted at 3.33/167....I wonder if this is due to Yield Protect....I am definitely very surprised by this.
Also...maybe this played no part it in, but on the application, under the category of "Alumni I'm Related To" (or whatever it said), I listed my dad as a former student. However, he transfered out after one year to a T14 school. I wonder if they saw that, saw the list of schools I applied to (many of whom were ranked higher than American),thought I'd either go to another school, or go the way of my dad and transfer, which resulted in this waitlist via YP? Maybe that means nothing, but who knows

I was expecting the waitlist. If you look at the graphs on LSN from the past years there is like a wall at 165.philswfc2008 wrote:Yep, same to me! Waitlisted at 3.33/167....I wonder if this is due to Yield Protect....I am definitely very surprised by this.

Who knows, maybe I overrated myself....LSP had me at "Admit", and I thought my LSAT score would push me in...oh well...Surprised, but it happens

Re: American University 2011 Applicants
Schools will waitlist "over" qualified candidates on the assumption they will go to a "better" school. It raises their attendance rates and lowers their acceptance rate. It's a way of gaming their numbers, but it sucks because there are people they waitlist that are seriously considering attending the school. American is the most notorious for doing this.red_alertz wrote:what is yield protect? how does that make someone as qualified as you are not to be admitted?

Waitlisted 169/3.3.
6 waitlists! Though I do think this one is probably YP given American's rep for that sort of thing. At any rate, I'm not gonna ask to stay on it.

Yes, I'll admit that's a massive psychological relief.justhockey31 wrote:I was planning on looking around just at neighborhoods I would think about living in...ps-glad to see American stayed t1 though they are hanging on by a threadps1187 wrote:Are you guys planning on checking out housing and stuff while you're there (besides the housing event in the schedule)?justhockey31 wrote:Definitely going to be there...I am actually going to be in DC for the whole week leading up to the ASDgdane wrote:Who's going to be at the april 1st asd?

When I visited a few weeks ago the tour guide mentioned something about a big housing/roommate-locating event put on by Student Services around July 4. I don't exactly remember the details.
It would be nice to check out the neighborhoods and figure out the commutes etc much earlier though.

I'll be there. Hitting BWI on Thursday and leaving Saturday. Seems like people are wanting to do something after the ASD, which I would be all for as long as I can get back to baltimore for my flight saturday morning.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
