All good. Emory is choice 1 for me. That is why I am desperate for a nice scholarship and information. Otherwise it will be hard to turn down larger offers from peer schools.

Where does Emory rank for everyone? What other options are you looking at that might keep you away from ELS?

ze - what would you say is a realistic COA per year at Emory (excluding scholarships obviously)?

start here. are you a) living alone or b) living with one or more roommates?

if a), i think you can live comfortably here for approx $1,600/mon for 9 months you're enrolled. that would come out to...$14,400. but by living comfortably i wouldn't say you could live to excess. expect approx $800/month in rent, $150/month in groceries, $150/month in bills not included in your rent, $100/month in gas (that's a very generous estimate cause at least in my case i hardly drive at all here unless it's to and from school), and then $400 for miscellaneous stuff. of course, adjust this number if you've got a car payment or something.

if b), subtract maybe $300/month from that estimate, leaving a 9 month bill of somewhere in the neighborhood of $12,000. now, this type of budget wouldn't be able to afford you tons of bar review nights, crazy shopping sprees in buckhead, or other pleasant diversions. but that's probably a good thing because focus is all-important in law school.

so tack that onto your tuition bill. and then remember i'm not including summers. i am not sure how loans work but it may be more prudent to take out more than you think you'll need for that first year, and then adjust your second and third year loans accordingly. you'd hate to run out of cash in april or something.

The same goes with me. Unfortunately, unless I get 20000 p/y I will have to exclude ELS from my choices.

1- BU (or Cornell with a miracle)
2- UMN
3 - Emory/UF/W&M

Serious cash can give Emory a bump, it'd still be hard to top BU though, I'm loving that place so far.

Ditto. Haven't slept or eaten since yesterday's acceptance. Running the numbers over and over and trying to figure a way to make finances work. $190k of home devaluement is no laughing matter.

I have a $60K package to W&M which makes it cheaper than ELS by just a bit even with $75K from Emory. My husband is in the Navy so I'm weighing schools by price and distance from the nearest sub base. W&M is about an hour, Emory 5. Still waiting on BU... It'll be a tough choice.
