Beautiful day to attract potential students. 44 and pouring down rain. Sorry to say guys, no matter what you are told tonight/tomorrow, weather like today/tomorrow will pretty much be the entirety of your spring semester until maybe mid-May

In all fairness, at least there's not a foot of snow or three inches of solid ice on the ground.RTS83 wrote:Beautiful day to attract potential students. 44 and pouring down rain. Plus, the crazy early spring/late summer thunderstorms are fun to watch.

It'll be especially fun when they/we tour Easton Town Center tomorrow... Sure, there's the indoor part, but that's kind of ghetto. The nice stores are outside. Maybe the rain will keep the gun-wielding teenagers away, though.RTS83 wrote:Beautiful day to attract potential students. 44 and pouring down rain. I hate that they keep including Easton on the Admitted Students program. There are so many interesting neighborhoods in Columbus it feels criminal to pack everyone up and drive them twenty minutes away to go eat at Cheesecake Factory.Lwoods wrote:It'll be especially fun when they/we tour Easton Town Center tomorrow... Everyone coming to this thing, do yourself a favor. Grab an umbrella and head south on High St to the Gallery Hop instead, or frat it up at O Patio if that's your thing. Or maybe trek down to German Village and go into a meat coma at Thurman's or Schmidt's, but don't go to Easton.

A later one. I think there was about a month to six weeks between my acceptance and my scholly offer.JohnnyBlues wrote:In the acceptance email? Or a later one?Lwoods wrote:via e-mailJohnnyBlues wrote:How did everyone find out about scholarships??

So I was accepted back in November and haven't received any scholarship info yet. Should I be freaking out/assume I'm not getting money? Or is this an opportunity for me to work on my patience?

Re: Ohio State 2011 Applicants
Gallery Hop is a lot of fun for sure. TBH I never spend time at Easton. During the day its all old people. During the weekends its the invasion of every middle school in Columbus. Blech. Polaris is the best mall out there.
Arena district can be alright if you want to hang out, although its kind of dead anymore (hence why I quit bartending there.) The gateway is pretty meh.
Bodega is the best bar in Columbus hands down. Perfect place to hang out and drink some snobbish beers while playing angry birds on your Ipad so everyone can see that you have one.

The claustrophobic need not apply. This place stays packed on a pretty regular basis.

I got mine 1.5 weeks after the admission email.
Getting dressed over here. Do we have a solid plan to find one another? I'll recognize maybe 1-2 faces out there. Maybe I'll put RTS83 under my name tag in quotes

No one will see this until later (unless your TLSing on your smartphone instead of paying attention to the presentations, in which case, you're absolutely doing it right), but I'm just curious if the vendors in the hallway braying like jackasses can be heard inside. I hope so.

It was nice meeting both of you as well. Stay in touch this spring.
and w/r/t the vendors, I got so annoyed with them. I had headphones in and could still hear their conversations clearly from 30 feet away.

For those of you who went to the ASW, what did you think? I'm not going to be able to make it to one so honest impressions please

I enjoyed it. My favorite part was meeting current students last night.JPR0488 wrote:For those of you who went to the ASW, what did you think? I'm not going to be able to make it to one so honest impressions please
They were pretty honest about the declining opportunities out there, but I got a good impression that they're working to do what they can to get students jobs.
They touched on the stuff we've talked about here... the corporate fellowship program, the new clinic, Davidoff joining the faculty (okay, we haven't discussed Davidoff on here, but I did geek out about it on my facebook).
My main concern when I visited last fall was if they'd have anything for me. It seemed like they focus a ton on alternative dispute resolution and diversity, which are both great, but aren't really big draws for me. The sales pitch at that time, I felt, was mismatched. It was a totally different story this time around. I found myself smiling and nodding a lot, which probably made me look like an idiot, but oh well.
I think they plan it a little longer than it needs to be, but it was definitely very informative.
Oh, and if you decide to come here, there are better housing options than the ones they endorse.

Re: Ohio State 2011 Applicants
Wow. The South Campus Gateway apartments really are a ripoff. $900/month for a 452 sq ft studio? We only paid $600 for the same sized place in the Bronx (med school housing). I feel like in Columbus, the top threshold you should pay for an apartment is $1/sq ft/month. Good apartments can be found for a lot less.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
