Re: American U
If I were waitlisted at American and suspected YP and really wanted to go, I'd write a letter of intent and send my deposit check.
Those saying it's a dishonest practice confound me. If you're too lazy to write a letter of intent to get yourself off of the waitlist, then clearly you shouldn't have wasted the money on the application. What are they supposed to do, accept 60% of their applicants?

Re: American U
Does anyone know when we can expect to hear about merit aid/has anyone gotten any this cycle?
I called the admissions office yesterday and while the girl was helpful, she clearly didn't know a lot about the process (she didn't know about the papers in the package/the student website). She said it would be before the seat deposit deadline but offered no other tangible date. Would it just show up under the financial aid section of the AU website?
I'm going to try to negotiate with them because I have a substantial scholarship at another, comparable school ( I know AU is stingy, but I have to try). Do you think I should wait until I see their financial offer or preemptively write a letter?

I'm working on my LOCI now. The waitlist form said to submit a "brief statement" to indicate my continued interest. and not to give information not requested. Should I leave out updates on my professional activities? I feel like that info might be useful but I don't want to annoy them.

Re: American U
i kept mine pretty brief but honest and to the point. i have a feeling that they look into what you say a lot less than
just noting in your file that you actively communicated continued interest. i feel its still advantageous given the amount
of people turning their nose up at the waitlist or those accepting it but not following up.

I think you can be succinct and give updates, too. In your position (high numbers, maybe YP), I think you should say what WCL has that fits your goals.

Please withdraw as soon as you can. The many people that are waitlisted would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks!

Re: American U
Just got back from an admitted students/alumni event for American at the Signature Room at the top of the Hancock Building in Chicago. The view was amazing, and the 10-15 other admitted students seemed quite nice and accomplished.
As for the alumni, they all seemed to zone in more on the friendships they made at American, and the fun they had there, rather than their employment prospects after graduation. It seemed like most of the alumni were employed for the federal government, and the few that weren't seemed to have changed jobs quite a bit after graduation (most were 03,04,05 graduates and they seemed to be on at least their second job). Just the vibe I got.
What was surprising, was that none of the other applicants seemed to know anything about tls, and I kind of got the vibe that they weren't very well informed about any other schools. Glad I found this place!

Also got an email yesterday with a dean's merit scholarship - you all should be hearing on that soon.

No problem. PT Program: 165/3.7 - extensive work experience. I got $10k for the first year with a note about being eligible for $$ for year 2 depending on XYZ (nothing concrete/definitive). Does that help?

Same here - 164/3.9 - also with extensive work experience.SummerLaw wrote:No problem. PT Program: 165/3.7 - extensive work experience. I got $10k for the first year with a note about being eligible for $$ for year 2 depending on XYZ (nothing concrete/definitive).
I'm really disappointed in the $10,000. Anything is better than nothing, but still- that $10,000 doesn't even make a dent in the cost of attending AU. Sigh.
Does anyone know if they negotiate at all?

Re: American U
So this is a stupid question, but does anyone have a suggestion for the subject line of my LOCI email? Since they ask to email it, I'm having more trouble. Snail mail doesn't need subject lines, so I wasn't prepared for this, and I always feel like they come out awkward. Please let me know if you have any suggestions!

Re: American U
were you also PT? Someone at the financial aid office said they don't negotiate, but I'm sending in a letter regardless.lstwin wrote:Same here - 164/3.9 - also with extensive work experience.SummerLaw wrote:No problem. Has anyone had any luck finding a hotel that offers a discount for visitors to AU?
