What is the in-state tuition for UCLA 2015-2016? It isn't posted online yet.

$47,435 is what's listed in the provisional award letter.Lawgirl101 wrote:What is the in-state tuition for UCLA 2015-2016? It isn't posted online yet.

When is first deposit due? I can't find any official date on their website. It's listed as 4/17 on a different TLS thread, can anyone confirm?
I'm a bit surprised no one got accepted today/this weekend. Nothing on LSN. Radio silence for me since Nov. Still secretly hoping I'll get the call or at least be put out of my misery soon.

Depends dramatically on what you want to do and where you want to practice when you're done. Are you interested in policy PI and want to live on the east coast? GULC. Entertainment law and want to live in SoCal? UCLA. Etc. Also, you need to double check how CoL compares between DC and LA. If I had to guess, they're probably similar, but if not that could make your similar $$ not that similar.Lawgirl101 wrote:UCLA vs. Georgetown.

Did they say anything about orientation during ASW?

Yeah. Was there anything you wanted to know specifically?minion2018 wrote:Did they say anything about orientation during ASW?
It's pretty much a weeklong introduction to "doing law school". There's a mock final exam, I think we discuss an assigned summer "how to law school" book, etc. It will be a useful week, it seems.

Yes. They said it was going to be a week long and it starts towards the end of August if I remember correctly.

First day is August 17, I think. Which is sooner that I'd hoped (though similar to other schools).

Thanks, you two. Super helpful.
But ohhhhh boy. I had assumed August 17 on the calendar was the first day of actual class, and orientation would be August 10. That changes things...

Could someone please confirm that I should address my LOCI to Assistant Dean of Admissions, Rob Schwartz? Thanks in advance.

Also, a question for you all, did anyone of you show UCLA a higher offer from USC and either they matched it or gave you a higher scholarship amount? I have a really good offer at USC, and I'm not sure if it's worth an effort to ask for an admission at UCLA if UCLA is not going to match my offer at USC (because I see them as identical peer schools).

UCLA won't match USC, especially because their tuition is so much lower (and even more so if you're in-state). That doesn't mean they're not responsive to USC offers though, just that they're unlikely to match or beat them.LawsRUs wrote:Yay, congrats mak!!mak04 wrote:I was just notified of my acceptance! UCLA probably won't match or beat SC. From what I've seen, they've been offering about 30-45k less than usc IF they decide to negotiate it. They've been arguing that UCLA is better school and already cheaper to attend.LawsRUs wrote:Yay, congrats mak!!mak04 wrote:I was just notified of my acceptance! Better late than never!

Thank you 677 and avd. avd, I was wondering what were the reasons that UCLA AOs were giving in their argument that UCLA is a better school. Thanks!avd12 wrote:They've been arguing that UCLA is better school...

This is mostly second-hand. But I've talked to a LOT of prospective students about it.LawsRUs wrote:Thank you 677 and avd. avd, I was wondering what were the reasons that UCLA AOs were giving in their argument that UCLA is a better school. Higher rank. Better faculty. Better facilities. Better location. Better employment statistics.
Which are all probably true.

They claim to also be "cheaper" and yes they are at sticker price. But if USC is giving me a 75% discount and UCLA is giving me like a 25% discount they are not and it's not even close. They also claim to have cheaper rents which is absurd considering the campus is in a more experience albeit much nicer area.

Better overall employment numbers, cheaper tuition, higher ranking, etc. Pretty obvious stuff. They're peers obviously. The tuition is the main selling point.
Cost of living is high and similar in both areas, so that angle is dumb. Though I haven't yet heard them say that Westwood is safer/prettier than USC's area, that's worth my consideration.

I don't know how they claim to have cheaper rent. Even a cursory look at the graduate housing websites shows that USC is cheaper.lawpractice wrote:They claim to also be "cheaper" and yes they are at sticker price. Though I'd much rather live in Westwood.

Re: UCLA School of Law c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 cycle)
I sent UCLA my 75k USC offer, and they decided not to offer me any aid at all. My numbers are at/below their medians, so I guess I don't have much leverage even if USC's offer is much better. However, I'll probably still go since I will be commuting from home and thus save some money. Does anyone have any advice for how to proceed from here?LawsRUs wrote:Yay, congrats mak!!mak04 wrote:I was just notified of my acceptance! Better late than never!
