Would it be bad form to simply write a Why Penn? that tells them I want NYU/Columbia-level education/employment prospects without the horrifying COA of NYC?

Perhaps mention the low COA, but I be wary of it. Penn's prompt is sophisticated and even philosophical, laying out a strongly-worded list of Penn strengths and asking how your goals and values align with those strengths. Discussion of COA seems almost too gauche for the prompt, and discussion of other schools would be poor form.

Maybe throw in a line about COA, but I'd pick out one or two Penn strengths from the list and show how your goals and experiences align with those (substantiated with maybe 1-2 journals or clinics you want to experience).

So I just checked my status checker and I got wait listed yesterday. It says they sent an email but I scoured both email accounts they have on file and never got anything and there is nothing in my spam either. Sorry if this is already discussed but have other people received their wait list emails? I'd like to respond to it.

1/6 UR2, over 75th LSAT and around median GPA, wrote a why penn and no news today. Pretty dissapointed.

Y'all should relax. Almost everyone waited way longer at UR2 than you have. I'm sure you'll have good news coming soon enough--and you're lucky to still be in it!

Um, yes I think it would be bad form to do that. Mention the education/employment prospects, and even the low COA - but I wouldn't compare them to specific schools (it could come across as if you're settling for Penn just because of the COA rather than anything else - even if that's true, I don't think they would look kindly on that in a Why Penn essay).

Got accepted this previous week. LSAT over 75th, GPA between 50th and 75th. Did not write a Why Penn. Email says merit scholarship info not coming until March. First Ivy ever so I'm pretty excited

Just spent my afternoon working on my LOCI after being waitlisted earlier this week. A couple questions I wanted to ask before proceeding:

1) I havent received any email indicating that I've been waitlisted (just saw it on the status checker). Should I wait to send my LOCI until I receive an email from UPenn indicating my status?

2) My status checker says "We will not begin the review of wait listed candidates until mid-May." Has this historically been true? The earliest I'd find out if I'm off the waitlist is Mid-May? I mean that's super late and would practically rule out UPenn for me based on life logistics.

3) Any other advice about LOCI specific to UPenn? I've dug through TLS forums for the general LOCI advice.

Overall, I feel really dumb not writing a Why Penn originally. I thought I had read somewhere that UPenn and below were ranked high enough (self-confident enough?) that they felt comfortable accepting people without the applicants groveling and reassuring the school that they are in-deed a good choice. Oh well. Live and learn....

3. Content doesn't matter too much just stick to the basics
