So I received my status check information today and 30 minutes later an email that I was UR. Anyone else had such quick turnaround? Wow. That's faster than NYU!

The same thing happened to me! I just submitted yesterday but for some reason am already under review. Makes me nervous.

Berkeley states the following regarding app evaluations:

Administrative Review
Once an application file is complete, it is evaluated on the basis of the admissions criteria by the Dean of Admissions. He admits a certain number of applicants who, under the governing criteria and on the basis of his experience, would have a high likelihood of admission if referred to the Admissions Committee. Similarly, applicants who would have a high likelihood of being denied if referred to the Committee are denied by the Dean of Admissions.

Committee Review
The remaining applicants are given more extended consideration by the Admissions Committee which is composed of faculty and students.

The student role is consultative and the faculty members' decisions are final. Only students who are members of the Admissions Committee are permitted to read files. You may indicate on the application form whether or not you consent to have your file read by a student member of the Committee. In the evaluation of your application, no weight is given to whether or not you consent to student review. In every case complete confidentiality of all materials is maintained.

As a result of the Committee's consideration, some applicants are admitted, some are placed on a waiting list, and the remaining applicants are denied. The total number admitted is that which experience has indicated will fill the places available in the entering class. If the number of admitted students who accept an offer of admission falls below the number necessary to fill the class, a waiting list is used to fill the remaining places.

I think UR is actually administrative review and FR is committee review. HTH

Agree. FR is comprised of faculty + students. I think the thing to take away is that you can be dinged/accepted from UR or FR as I saw some people who were dinged (from UR) at around the time when others were being updated from UR--> FR. Sounds like more wait time for some, good luck everyone.

First post, but I'm just as curious. Submitted last week and I'm in the same boat. Notwithstanding my hopes and dreams being on the line, I'm going to say it's either a really good or really bad thing.

I think that's everyone right now - I submitted on Saturday, got my status checker today, and am also UR. It'll still probably take a while for us to hear back!

Last year there was a big admit wave today.

This is weird. So, I was stuck at "Application received" and e-mailed Berkeley asking if there was a problem (I had not heard anything). They responded back saying they were holding my application until they received my "other letter of recommendation". I submitted one because the app said the letters were completely optional. Apparently if you submit one, you must submit two, or they'll hold your application.

Even though the application instructions explicitly say

"The Admissions Office will not hold your application for review pending receipt of your letters of recommendation. If you want all of your letters to be considered in the review process, be sure that they are available with your Credential Assembly Service (CAS) report at the time you submit your application."

I'm confused. Submitted my other letter, but still... Confused.

That's weird! And I'm worried now... My application is under review as of today, but LSAC says it hasn't sent my LORs yet (if their "sent" icons are correct). Not sure why my LORs weren't transmitted with the rest of my CAS report! Hopefully Berkeley will still read my letters whenever they come in.

I think in the past the admit emails have been in one wave (and by wave I mean all at the exact same time/minute).
