Pardon my naivete, but at this point in the admissions process what is the difference between "held for further review" and "application completed"? I know the distinction is quite clear concerning the status checker for most other schools, but from what I hear on here, it seems that it isn't unusual for SMU to render a decision straight from "app completed".

I've watched SMU on TLS for several cycles and "Application Completed" I believe generally means your file is ready for a decision release. However, instead of releasing a decision when it has been made, SMU releases decisions in batches on the same day. Based on last year's thread, after the April 1 deposit deadline they released on 4/5, 4/10 and 4/17. Hope this helps. Good luck everyone!

That helps more than you can understand, thank you so much. Hopefully I'll hear back on one of those days, sadly going to have to put a seat deposit down at another school just as a backup plan for SMU's decision.

I applied early. So instead of rendering a decision in the early cycle, my app got held to the regular to be considered with those.

Ah! Okay, makes much more sense now. I had for some weird reason assumed we had applied at the same time. Best of luck!

You know anything about scholarships for late applicants? By the way, I'm pretty sure you're the LSN profile I used when looking into this school . . . we got similar scholarships for Baylor and I'm hoping for it to be the same for SMU.

I have no idea. I considered myself pretty late (applied a few days before the deadline), and I greatly outperformed my numbers when it comes to the scholarship they offered me. Good luck though.

Thanks, hopefully I hear back from them soon. My application would have been in sooner but forgot about a transcript and that wasn't sent in as a hard copy until just a few days ago.

Most people get a phone call...but not all (I didn't). Watch for wording to change at the top of your status checker something along the lines of "you may have noticed a change...blah blah" - that's when things are happening. Usually rejections are snail mail and status checker. Admits will eventually show up on the status checker but with no rhyme or reason before or after the call, if you get one.

ETA: Also, if you applied for both FT and PT, your drop down selection at the top will only be for one or the other.

Good luck to you, but the scholarship matching seems unlikely if you have a really great offer from Baylor. From my experience and from what others have posted, SMU is not willing to negotiate.

Smu is my top choice, Baylor second. I only got 9k from Baylor so I'm hoping smu can offer more than that :/

Don't put down a deposit anywhere if you don't have your decision from SMU yet. Call up Baylor and tell them you are still waiting on a decision and some scholarship stuff. They will extend your deadline to deposit if you just ask them. I got them to move my deadline to April 15.

Yeah, there's no harm in trying to negotiate though. If they don't match I'd be willing to go elsewhere, just have to wait for their acceptance and wait to see what they offer in terms of scholarship first.
