does anyone know anything about deferring for a year? I've been thinking about it recently and thinking that it may actually be what I do

This is from GW Law website: "We consider requests for deferral on a case-by-case basis. We will consider your reasons for seeking a deferral and let you know our decision within one or two weeks of receipt of your request. We generally grant one-year deferrals, although we will grant two-year deferrals in some special cases (e.g., individuals who are called to military duty or who choose to participate in Teach for America or the Peace Corps)."

Basically, you need to have a pretty good reason to do it. Otherwise they could refuse your request and withdraw your offer of admission if you don't agree to matriculate this year.

when did you get in?

I applied 1/16, got accepted 1/28, and received scholarship info 2/19. 10,000k/yr. I'm pretty happy to have gotten anything, because my numbers are only okay (165/3.79).

I got an email reminding me that the deadline for accepting my scholarship is coming up (April 1) and took the email as an opportunity to ask for an increase in my award, so I will let you know how it goes/how willing they seem to negotiate!

Sure most ppl in my shoes have these same options so curious what ppl are thinking as well as any news on the scholly.

Both my numbers were just below their cutoff originally (167 or 3.7). On merit alone, I would think that my 166/3.61 would have been a solid app but this is the world of medians.

My 166/3.61 will prob put my GPA and LSAT both at or above Emory's medians. I think median gaming is completely counterintuitive to admitting the most qualified applicants. But this explains the Emory scholarship and GW waitlist. When I explain medians to people not applying to law school, I always get the same negative reaction towards the method.

It's all about the USNWR rankings, which medians are one of the few factors in it that a law school has some control over.

$120,000 merit scholarship. I will likely be withdrawing, so I hope this money goes to one of you all!
