What was it last year? Yes it's probably irresponsible, but I hope they figure that out next cycle.JXander wrote:So today I spoke to a 2L at the firm in which I work here in Austin. Why? So our class gets boned at OCI while the next year has it better?rabbitrun wrote:What was it last year? Thats interesting and sad to hear, I really loved the huge drop in the class size last year. Wonder if they'll be able to maintain their 167 median?

I was looking at apts in the area and I heard that a lot of them near campus begin filling up by the end of this month! Have any of you heard the same thing?

I was actually in Austin a few weeks ago and had a leasing agent show me some places in hyde park (most of them around 38th). FWIW I asked her how fast they fill up and she said I still had alot of time, she had alot of places still avaliable at various complexes.FallingHigher wrote:I was looking at apts in the area and I heard that a lot of them near campus begin filling up by the end of this month! Hyde park is one of the best neighborhoods in Austin IMO. Centrally located, away from campus but still close enough, and lots of nice neighborhood restaurants/bars/coffee shops. I agree that you still have plenty of time - when I was there for undergrad I usually signed my lease in the summer and had plenty of options. Once summer rolls around, lots of places will open up as undergrads leave.StylinNProfilin wrote:I was actually in Austin a few weeks ago and had a leasing agent show me some places in hyde park (most of them around 38th). $850-$900. decent sized studios around 500 sq feet.BigZuck wrote:What were the price ranges on these places? Interesting...I wonder if a reverse splitter like me (164/3.82) will have a shot. Here's to hoping!JXander wrote:So today I spoke to a 2L at the firm in which I work here in Austin. Re: University of TEXAS c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013 cycle)
I support a smaller class too, but financially they just can't do it right. I think the law school actually was a net negative for UT last year, which I don't think has happened in awhile. (And can't be a reoccuring theme I assume, unless the new Dean wants Bill Powers to replace him.) Unless they start cutting faculty and other workers, they have to keep a larger class size to pay for everything. (So I feel a bit torn, since when thing I love about UT is the great faculty and the large selection of classes you can take, but I also recognize that a smaller class is more responsible in allowing the school to help get grads jobs.)StylinNProfilin wrote:Thats interesting and sad to hear, I really loved the huge drop in the class size last year. Do you know what other neighborhoods Texas law students commonly reside in?

I think most live north of campus. Most law students try to avoid west campus, since that is when the frat and sorority houses are. South congress and the surrounding areas can be awesome location-wise, if you don't mind being a little further from campus. Just north of campus is probably easiest in terms of convenience though.timeandspace11 wrote: Do you know what other neighborhoods Texas law students commonly reside in?

I guess I prefer to be close to campus since I probably wont have a car at least not initially. Prices look relatively affordable, at least compared to Boston

You can find stuff north of campus within either walking or biking distance that is relatively affordable, especially if you have a roommate. (There are shuttles that go to campus as well.)timeandspace11 wrote:Richie Tenenbaum wrote:I think most live north of campus. Hmmm I am going down this saturday to look at apts. I am hoping to get a small efficiency between 600-700. I will let you all know how it goes.StylinNProfilin wrote:$850-$900. decent sized studios around 500 sq feet.BigZuck wrote:What were the price ranges on these places? Judging from craigslist that certainly sounds possible. Are you going to actually try and sign a contract? Isnt it a bit early?

I don't plan on signing anything until the end of this month at the earliest. I just wanted to get down there and get a general feel/idea where I want to live. It is only a couple hour drive for me so its not a huge inconvenience.timeandspace11 wrote:Judging from craigslist that certainly sounds possible. Are you going to actually try and sign a contract? During my tour, they highlight Hyde Park as a great place for Law School students. Some students stay a bit more away like at the Triangle (apartments there), but that is a bit of a drive.FallingHigher wrote:I don't plan on signing anything until the end of this month at the earliest. To all apartment seekers...
Provided my interview goes well and I am accepted, I may stay in my apartment in Austin and will be in need of a roommate. I live about 15 minutes from the school (30 minutes with traffic). Nothing is final right now of course, but if you would like any details, feel free to PM me.
