Yup, but nice doesn't compensate for 36K tuition, and a ranking drop from 80's to 90's to 100 to 127 in four years. Rankings shouldn't matter above the top schools, but apply that to the fact that schools shouldn't drop several "tiers" in a few years either.
Ya i dont think im going but i like the admissions staff, the status checker basically the whole experience was good. i recommend others to apply there in the future if they are considering it

Oklahoma City did a entire tour, meals, student panel, scholarship panel, Q&A /w dean, financial aid info session etc etc... Tulsa's schedule (for this weekend) is four pages long. Texas Wesleyan invited me to three different events and has sent multiple info sheets, Mercer sent me several invites, plus exactly how the fees and tuition are taken out--like by which loan etc. So far South TX has said, "hey, your in, sorry we didn't email you". And "here are a few meet your potential fellow students" days. I flew down there in Feb for the "open house" which consisted of a couple of booths, with a few handouts, and a info session on applying--LSAT, GPA  etc. and then three teachers talking about the careers they have had....
Maybe I'm just being cynical but STCL is my top choice (with Tech) , but has had about the worst communication and informative help of the 20 schools to which I applied.
I'm with you on this, but I chalked up the lack of an admitted student day to the fact that it's in downtown Houston and the campus shares a building with the First Court of Appeals, so there wouldn't be much law school tour-y stuff other than "this is Houston, we're in downtown Houston" and a tour of the school (which they should be offering on the 2nd). I agree with the frustration that this is causing us, but they're my top (only) choice, and I don't think this is going to cause me to rethink my choice, but it's definitely something that could turn other potential students off.

Although, the reason they're my number 1 choice is because of their name recognition in Houston and their trial advocacy, and I wouldn't think that a less than optimal application/admission experience affects that much.

There's something to be said for consistency in the rankings, even fourth tier consistency. And volatility down in the rankings is never good.

+1, I have to keep putting it into perspective that the teachers won't be a reflection of administration and also that STCL is unaffiliated with a UG, and has around DOUBLE the students of most TX law schools.

Ya i dont think anyone is not gonna go to the school for these reasons, because we all want to go there for the reasons you expressed. But this will be invaluable info for future applicants who can go back and look at our frustration and be like "oh ok this is just how it is with south texas" Im extremely dissapointed with the admissions process so far but i also understand that has nothing to do with the school, how i will like it, how the people will be the teachers etc and i think everyone else realizes that too.

By the way, for those of you even mildly considering your options, what is your absolutely final day you are going to make a decision and send someone money?
I'm thinking after a "fair" visit to Tulsa this weekend I'll send money to someone by next Tuesday (because most schools I'm still considering are 4/1 and not the 4/15)

I bet someone is working on merit $ and others are working on compiling and progressing the three faculty decisions. It's coming, any day (or hour) now.

Well, since STCL is my only real option right now (Hell can freeze before I go to TSU), I'm planning on waiting til April 11th or so to mail them my deposit check, I just wanna wait and see if SMU can come through for me or not before I send in the monies.

I thought the LSAT wait for the score was bad. Then came the wait for an admission decision. Now the idea that a scholarship may or may not determine where I end up is killing me.
When will this be happy like it is supposed to be? (TLS Answer= get above a 168 on the LSAT and ED to UVA   )

No way to really tell this, but when I called they seemed to be very busy. He said they are working full force now. I mentioned seat deposits for other schools are coming up and he said they realize that and are working like crazy.

Yeah, that's the one I RSVP'd for. As far as I can tell, STCL caters to older students and maybe they just don't care as much? I assume a large segment of the student body is adding to a career they already have in Houston, and are just throwing in where things are cheapest/most convenient. but I could be wrong?

Although fwiw the ASD I attended at CU-Boulder could easily have been 1/2 as long as it was and still as informative. The mock class/trial stuff was pretty useless, I thought.

Wait, I thought TCR for this situation was to take a year off, get WE, retake and get a 172, then ED to Northwestern.

I would say Baylor is possibly worse, but I agree STCL isn't good at all and Mercer, despite being 35k was always helpful and informative.

True story. Even in the URM forum I got a lot of "retake and reapply"s with my 161.

Fwiw, I'm a retake/reapply, and it improved my cycle so drastically that I have trouble not echoing the sentiment. It tripled scholarship money for me at the school I got into w/my 158, and it got me accepted to 4 schools that waitlisted me. It's not terrible advice if you can find a job/wait a year.

That said, STCL is not a bad option for going right now if you like it. =)

Oh, I'm not saying it's a bad idea, and if I were 22/23, I'd definitely take the advice, but I'm not getting any younger, and my wife wants a baby, so taking a year off just wasn't in the picture for me, and STCL fits my needs almost perfectly.

You see, this is my problem with some here on TLS. A 159 is a good score. Now, if you a sub-150 after extensive studying and whatnot, then I could see people saying stuff like this, but not with a 159.
