Those who charge predominantly broke-ass students $70-$100 just to apply really have no right to be "ticked off" about a few calls when they take months to get back to applicants. .....And the process could most assuredly be expedited, either with greater effort or additional personnel.

Dude, did you think about how many people with low numbers and no hope of ever getting in would apply if it were free for everyone? The reason it costs money to apply is because it costs money to hire someone to review your application and it limits the number of throw away applications. Contrary to popular belief I believe that they do in fact actually read each file at least once. Think of how long it must take Berkeley's admissions staff to read the 9000 applications they get each year.

Yes, I did think about that. The point is that they charge a demographic that generally doesn't have much money for a service that is extremely slow. In other words, they make you pay for more than you get. That they'd get angry that people want to know why their slow service is slow and whether they can do anything to accelerate the lengthy process is pretty egocentric.

For those who get accepted, I'd say the application fee is pretty worth it!

This is a discussion for another thread, but I wouldn't want a completely untrained/uneducated reviewer going over my admissions file. They can only support a limited number of admissions staff because the process is really only 6 months long but those people need to be employed for the full year. It's slow for many reasons, a good deal of which are totally understandable.
