Re: I made it into my "REACH"
Anyway to get this thread back on track:
GPA: 3.5x
LSAT: 163
URM: No, but Cuban
School: UNC
I know I am right around their medians, but I got admitted and I am OOS, which I believe is not easy to do, so I consider this a reach.

Bingo. No outlandish, heartbreaking story of overcoming something = weaker ps. Not to say that I hate NOT being disadvantaged, but hey, the best people should get the best spots, PERIOD. It's no more my fault for being born into privilege than it is someone's fault for being a URM and disadvantaged. It just sucks when "American equality" backfires to discriminate against the majority groups...

Re: I made it into my "REACH"
This is stupid. When you come from a family of lawyers or upper middle class/ upper class family, you have a lot less to overcome than someone like me, who was the first in his family to go to college. I am hispanic, but not considered a URM, either way, I am not trying to fuel this fire with another debate, I am just saying I understand why the boost exists.arobb527 wrote:Top14Hope wrote:sunlitstars wrote:A good place to put that would be your PS.Impatient wrote: Serious question: How would a law school even know your economically disadvantaged? What reach did you get into? Cause this is the reach thread. Please keep it that way.

If you look 4 posts above the one you quoted, you would see what reach I got into. I am all about keeping this thread on topic, I just wanted to briefly address what was said about AA, while trying to end the discussion at the same time.NorCalBruin wrote:What reach did you get into? As if being economically disadvantage is a help. I guess it is if you're are (or are pretty much) homeless. Beyond that, no one cares.arobb527 wrote:Wish I was a minority, gay, and economically disadvantaged...It seems I could go anywhere I want with a 165

It does not, even if you were homeless. Trust me on this.Bill Cosby wrote:As if being economically disadvantage is a help. I guess it is if you're are (or are pretty much) homeless. That's exactly how it works, of course. It just that the quality of one's candidacy is partially subjective and is measured by more than two numbers.arobb527 wrote:... but hey, the best [candidates] should get the best spots, PERIOD.
(And I changed "people" to "candidates" because nobody's judging anyone's quality as a person here.)
