Does anyone have any more information on study programs like LEEWS? are these courses truly helpful? Any feedback or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I found this article really entertaining, and apparently it sparked a lot of debate back in the day. The Case of the Speluncean Explorers

Got Law School Labyrinth as a gift- is anyone familiar with this book? I've never heard of it...

I received "One L" by Scott Turow for Christmas and read it this past weekend. It was a really fascinating book about Turow's first year of law school at Harvard. It takes place in the 1970’s and I’m sure a lot has changed since then, but it was an interesting read.

He's really whiny, but a lot of what he describes is close enough for government work to what the first semester will actually be like. And hell, we law students ARE really whinycaligirl07 wrote:I received "One L" by Scott Turow for Christmas and read it this past weekend. My advice is to save some stuff for 2-3 weeks into the semester. For me at least, reading Getting to Maybe before the semester was fun for shits and giggles, but reading it after a few weeks of law school was eye-opening. There's so much you won't be able to comprehend until you've started the schooling process, you just aren't going to do yourself any favors by trying to 'get ahead' via hornbooks prior to law school. The damn things aren't always that helpful even when you know what to be looking for

If any of you want LEEWS, I'm selling a copy for $90 including shipping. PM me and we can arrange something. I thought it was helpful, especially for Torts and Crim.

I have a question that probably fits here: I'd like to read an introductory book on economics sometime before law school. Does anyone have any good recommendations? I would probably prefer if it it included some math, maybe something of an "intro econ for scientists" type thing...

At the U of C, we use Varian's Intermediate microeconomics textbook for the first quarter of price theory:

It has some math, but Varian scaled down the calculus considerably. His appendix's are kinda useful for some of that. I think its a pretty good intro book though.

If one is to be a politician, then one must have a law degree. If one does not have a law degree, one cannot be a politician.

+1. I'm actually reading this right now, and it's really interesting. I'm going to try and read a few more books like this one (nonfiction, thought-provoking, etc) and grab a couple of the "overview" books on 1L and legal thinking, etc. Probably save the study aids for class, but I'm sure they're helpful.JessicaTiger wrote: Not an intro to econ, but still freaking awesome- Freakonomics

When you're finished with Freakonomics, read More Sex is Safer Sex. Similar idea, and just as awesome.GobiasIndustries wrote:+1. I'm actually reading this right now, and it's really interesting. Armchair economist is ok.. It will let you see how economist think without teaching you how to do it yourself.SR86 wrote:I have a question that probably fits here: I'd like to read an introductory book on economics sometime before law school. i was always so mad they made us read the classics in high school. it ruined them for so many people. luckily not me. i can't bear to read anything written after 1900Baylan wrote:My junior/senior year of HS Brit Lit/AP English teacher said, and I quote about this book, "The first chapter is the crime, and the rest is the punishment."sckon wrote:rw2264 wrote:i thought this was going to be a thread on novels. you can imagine my disappointment.

Got a subscription to the New York times a month ago. Best decision ever. I live in San Antonio Texas, and the writing is sooooooo noticeably better (duh...). Easy way to pass the time. Really cheap also!
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
