I guess another option is transferring after the first year at Chapman to your school of choice yet the process itself is a hassle and i'm not sure if they offer scholarships for transfer students at incoming schools?pauldoeslaw wrote:Again, same questions and concerns. Has anyone heard anything about finding the replacement for Dean Eastman? Has the search committee been formed? Etc. Thanks.

i think pretty much any of these schools will give more than 1/3 of the class scholarships and demand they stay in the top 1/3. i'm ok with this, if they give me money its ok if they expect things from me in return. however, some schools i hear stack sections to screw people and this worries me.pauldoeslaw wrote:Again, same questions and concerns. I'm sure many do, but Chapman just asks that you maintain a 3.0 GPA.twert wrote:i think pretty much any of these schools will give more than 1/3 of the class scholarships and demand they stay in the top 1/3. i'm ok with this, if they give me money its ok if they expect things from me in return. however, some schools i hear stack sections to screw people and this worries me.pauldoeslaw wrote:Again, same questions and concerns. Assuming the grading system is fairly tame, the full-ride at Chapman sounds almost given. I'm meeting with some of my other 0L friends for dinner tomorrow. I'll ask them what they have to say.

Actually, I called up and asked about their curve - it is harsh. 3.0 is equal to top 1/3. Just FYI.zeth006 wrote:Assuming the grading system is fairly tame, the full-ride at Chapman sounds almost given. I'm meeting with some of my other 0L friends for dinner tomorrow. Well...if it's the case that's true, looks like USD it is! I'm damned if I go to USD with debt...and damned if I don't!

Still waiting to hear from my reaches though.

Re: Chapman
Is a 3.0 curve harsh? I think part of what matters is how many full scholarships they are giving out. This is assuming that all people with full scholarships will maintain a 3.0 or better. I don't think they have enough money to offer so many people scholarships that people are getting bumped out. I could envision that if they stack them all into one track. There are only so many A's per class that some would get knocked around.

That is brutal. Even so, I still prefer a scholarship structure that pits students against the "system," rather than against each other.twert wrote:this is from NALP directory. i don't know how recent it is. it looks brutal.

I've been in review since 11/13, anyone in my same situation? I would have thought I would have been waitlisted by now but I have yet to hear anything. I also noticed deposit fee's showed up, possibly good news?

Re: Chapman
Not sure what you mean by the deposit showing up. I got in a while ago and my status says admitted and gives a link about seat deposits. Not sure how helpful this is. I've called/emailed a couple of times with questions. They are pretty helpful.

Under the fees section there are two separate deposits listed. It was curious because it wasn't there a few days ago.

Re: Chapman
Also, to add, I asked what percentage of students retain their scholarships for all 3 years, and they said 63% retain them all the way through. I assume that a higher percent of the 37% that lost them, lost them during after 1L. So, you can do your own risk-management equations from there.

Re: Chapman
Did you ask them to break it down by the amount of scholarship money? Was there a correlation of students who had half or quarter scholarship and losing those scholarships? Thanks.

Nope, didn't ask that much detail.mjs92983 wrote:Did you ask them to break it down by the amount of scholarship money? Was there a correlation of students who had half or quarter scholarship and losing those scholarships? Thanks.

Rumors, sure... but they're not true. I was conscious of this possibility going in, and from asking around confirmed that the admissions office really does try and make the sections as even as possible in terms of scholarships / stats.mjs92983 wrote:Has there ever been any rumors of Chapman "stacking sections?"

Re: Chapman
Can anyone clarify the ranking system for me - if Chapman is third tier, how are people saying that it may move up to top 100 soon? Do the rankings basically go from top 100 to tier 3 (300s) and tier 4 (400s) with nothing in between?

Re: Chapman
I have no idea whether or not Chapman will be in the top 100 next year but the tiers are Tier 1 (1-50), Tier 2 (51-100), Tier 3(101-140), Tier 4 (141-190)
The last two do not rank the individual schools however.
Nota Bene: Stole this from another thread, so hope its accurate

Re: Chapman
Thank you for the clarification, I just got thrown off because law school numbers ranks Chapman as 300 so I thought maybe tier 3 = 300 - 400swiard wrote:I have no idea whether or not Chapman will be in the top 100 next year but the tiers are Tier 1 (1-50), Tier 2 (51-100), Tier 3(101-140), Tier 4 (141-190)

Re: Chapman
not a problem. I'm not huge on rankings, but I don't think even I would have applied if it was ranked 300 lol
