If anyone is visiting New Haven, and wants suggestions of places to see, PM me. I teach at a Yale program during the summer and live nearby at the moment. There's lots to check out if you're in the area, especially if you like ethnic food :)

For what it's worth, I know several people last year who were admitted in November, so I think Yale is pretty unpredictable in its admissions pattern (which is just to say, it's not impossible to hear early). However, the acceptance came in February for most people. Good luck guys! :)

I don't doubt that you had a great time. But are you from California? If not, you might not know how lovely life can be.
I spent the first 18 years of my life in Southern California, very close to the beach. And I've lived all over the world since. New Haven is a great town.

Your words just became a lot more meaningful to me. Would you mind PM'ing me to mention a few things that you enjoyed about the city? I really haven't encountered anything that I liked there during many visits to my sister.

Yale might begin admitting this week - there's only one acceptance on LSN on 12/10 last year, but there were several 12/6 acceptances 2 years ago

Would be shocked to see a wave of pre-Christmas acceptances. That said, it's snowing the Bay Area, so anything can happen. :P

You'll notice the people that got into Yale in early December are also the people that got into Harvard in late November and got into Stanford in mid-December.

i.e. HYS auto-admits due to their softs. One of them was a 173 / 4.0 TFA corps member, for instance.

I'm trying to downplay my expectations due to my non-prestigious UG. I feel like making the decision to go to a college that I could leave with only about 10k in debt due to massive scholarship will come back to haunt me...

It seems like Yale and Stanford place a lot more emphasis on softs than Harvard does, though, leaving some Harvard auto-admits (I'm looking at you, managamy) to cross their fingers for Y and S. I do think you'll get into S though, given your 4.1+ from Stanford UG. If you have good recs - and I think I remember you telling me who wrote them in a PM - I think you're in at S. Not sure about Y though.

Sounds like a more reasonable assessment than the words of our bold prophet, and one with which I am still very content.

There's absolutely no way Managamy gets into YS with a 178 / 4.1.

Maybe I should retake the LSAT and shoot for a 180.

Too bad Yale is a school that actually requires that you be something outside of your numbers.

You think Yale's going to ding even the most boring 180/4.1?

Naw.

They rejected 180s, and they rejected 178/179 / 4.0s. WLed a ton of 178/179 / 3.95s. And a 178 has the same effect on their 75% as a 180.

Doesn't yale autoadmit most of the top 50 applications it gets numbers wise?

Small sample seems to indicate yes.

Let's call her a douchess. Which is close to duchess, but falls just short.

I hate to admit it, but she does have a point. Yale is far from numbers-obsessed, and they've turned down plenty of high stats in the past.

I think they only reject 179, 4.0s if for like some utter lack of softs or something deal killing. I remember reading that those types of applicants don't even have to go through the professor peer review

They do autoadmit some in Dec. but it doesn't seem to be the 180/4.0s. There are some 173s, 170s, 172, 3.6, even a 169. I think they autoadmit their 50 strongest applicants, but I don't think it is #s only.

Not sure why is is douchey to suggest that Yale requires softs, not just numbers. They are the number one school, admit a tiny class, and don't need to be numbers obsessed with a high yield and attracting the best candidates.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
