That won't happen at UCI, they're going to admit small groups of people in batches and use the WL heavily.

I feel no schools can hit bulls-eye with all their first choices, so I think they count on people withdrawing, or turning down applications. That being said, if they do get all yays and no nays, then I think the only honorable thing for them to do would be to increase the size of the class. This, I believe, will not be the case with Irvine. If anything, they are going to have a rough time getting their first choices to enroll. I feel what they are doing is very wise, under the circumstances - going as high as they dare, never mind yield-protect.
Sigh... best of luck to them.

All schools send out more acceptances than they have seats for. They have some sort of formula thingy that determines how many people are likely to accept stuff. I'd guess that UCI is going to waitlist almost everyone, and go from there.

Hey! I just heard yesterday via snail mail! No call though.

Stats - 166/3.37 + 4 years out of school - two jobs at top law schools and a Masters degree in international development

Why I want to go to UC irvine:

- Amazing faculty (with great connections for those worried about jobs)
- Faculty to student ratio (there are over a thousand students at UCLA and other top schools - making it more difficult to get any one-on-one mentoring, in some case, you'd be lucky to talk one-on-one with a teaching assistant)
- Resources invested so far
- Ability to create my own law school experience
- Free tuition

I'm interested in anyone's thoughts on how accreditation will effect externships and what you think it'll be like starting up new student organization i.e. law review, human rights, etc.

Yes, it said that full tuition was confirmed for the first three years as long as you remain in good standing. And to contact the financial aid office about housing options.

All the talk about 25th% and 75th% and yield are all terms that are important for USNWR but also for ABA accredidation.

If I am not mistaken don't they have like 6 years for the ABA to review them and decide on their accredidation. So until such time they can form the classes to be what they need them to be.
This year they could very well yield super high numbers by accepting splitters. They can get the best of both worlds. They can get high GPA/low LSAT folks and high LSAT/low GPA folks add in a full tuition scholly and the first year class is set.

Now subsequent year that don't offer the tuition will still allow them to offer money to students who can continue to improve on their t-20 type numbers. I don't think they'll have a problem pulling a 160 median in the first 5 years.

If people are willing to go to Chapman with 169/3.8 and 163/3.6 then they'll go to UCI

Let's not get nasty here. Chapman places candidates in BigLaw too but you just have to work hard to be in the top 10%.

I applied and will likely go if admitted. My stats are 167/3.98. However, I own a home in the Dallas area, so it will be a very difficult decision if I get admitted and also get a good offer from SMU.

I don't believe it ever occurred to NoamChomsky that some people don't want BigLaw. Who "feels sorry" for someone getting a free education at Chapman, and a quality education at that, and then working in their chosen field? NoamChomsky, have you ever read the book, the Jungle by Upton Sinclair? If not, you should read it because I think you were a character in it. Also, I realize that my statement is harsh. But please think about it before you get offended because it is a really important point, not just chatter.
