Can someone shed some light on trying to get BigLaw at UCIrvine? Is it possible? Or do you need to be top 5 of your class to do so?

Per NALP summary, the class of 2016 had 17 grads placed in a law firm of 101+ attorneys in addition to placing 16 grads in federal clerkships. One thing to keep in mind is the class of 2017 will be the first class to have gone through OCI when UCI was first ranked. Just my prediction (or hope) but these numbers might shoot up?

How's the social life for 1L at UCI. Is it as collegial as people say?

How's Irvine in terms of places to hang, explore or spend weekends, if there is any weekend. Any nightlife or bars in the area?

There is "bar review" most thursdays which is hanging out at a different bar in OC each time. The students are very nice not just 1Ls, the 2Ls and 3Ls also. There are places to hang out in Irvine like the Spectrum but even more if you expand to other parts of OC -- like Newport, Orange, etc.

Thank you for the info. Sounds great. I see that on-campus housing is guaranteed. Do you know most of law students live on or off-campus. And do you know anything about the rent off campus.

Not a student but I know Irvine.

Irvine is a nice safe city that is more geared towards families, in my opinion. There are some decent places to eat and the UTC (University Town Center) is a center that is directly across from UCI where a few places are open late to eat/hang-out. Then you always have Newport Beach not too far, Los Angeles, San Diego, Big Bear, etc. Honestly, not a bad place to call home.

I sent my app in, in mid-Nov but had it held for my Dec. LSAT score. They immediately completed my file and sent it to review within the second week of December. With the holiday closure (25th - 2nd) it really wasn't many total days before I heard back. Best of luck to you!
