Are either of you guys going to try to negotiate? I'm not sure how Houston does it, but I want to see if I can get my scholarship boosted to a full ride. Last year they handed out more 90k offers than 75k, yet I haven't seen anyone on LSN post a 90k offer this cycle.HennessyVSOP wrote:I know, I thought I was a sure-thing for some money from them, even half scholarship. They still remain a good value compared to SMU and Baylor, but it's a huge disappointment to get....nothing. Especially being above the 75th for LSAT. I got a 105K offer from Emory today, but can't even get 5K a year from Houston? I really want to go to Houston, too...

I'll definitely negotiate, but I want to be in the strongest position possible first. So, still waiting on a couple schools, then I'll work my way over to UH...I'm pretty confident you will have luck.Torres1893 wrote:Are either of you guys going to try to negotiate? sorry

In all seriousness I think it's stupid that both of you didn't get a scholly. I would imagine UH would want to raise their LSAT median to try to get higher in the ranks. When I was their for undergrad they really pushed being a Tier 1 university and invested a lot of money into things. But it seems like most of it went to the football program/stadium and guest speakers...

Did everyone get a scholarship e-mail? Or did anyone just get their sholly info in their admissions packet?

Any word on the rules of engagement for scholarship negotiations?

This is definitely the case. First, it was Tier 1. Then it was the Herman era. They really have nothing now and I'm unsure why they would not want to play the ranking gameTorres1893 wrote:HennessyVSOP wrote:why u gotta respond to my post like thisTorres1893 wrote:Are either of you guys going to try to negotiate? According to their website, they don't usually "match" other school's scholarship offers, but will reconsider your award one time. There's a form you have to fill out: http://www.law.uh.edu/admissions/admitt ... arship.asp_sendnudes wrote:Any word on the rules of engagement for scholarship negotiations?

Is there anyone on this thread (recently admitted or current UH Law student) who has had success in negotiating a higher scholarship at Houston?

I had success, but it was with a higher LSAT score instead of leveraging another offer, so that may not be what you're looking for. I will try to get it bumped again, though, in late March once I have more offers.DemiB wrote:Is there anyone on this thread (recently admitted or current UH Law student) who has had success in negotiating a higher scholarship at Houston?

Yeah, I will have to rely on other scholarship offers. Are you going to include a letter explaining your interest in Houston and desire for a higher scholarship when you reach out to them again? I'm wondering if a compelling letter would help my case at all.Tazewell wrote:I had success, but it was with a higher LSAT score instead of leveraging another offer, so that may not be what you're looking for. I'm essentially going to write a Why Houston and then just talk about how the only reason I haven't signed is financial concerns, blah blah blah. So, yes, that's my plan.DemiB wrote:Yeah, I will have to rely on other scholarship offers. Personally leaning towards the one in April, since the Diversity Reception is the night before, but not 100% sure. What about you?_sendnudes wrote:Has anybody decided which ASD you'll be going to?

It depends on what you want. My wife is in the optometry school at UH, and lives at Campus Vue which is right on campus. Yeah, there are quite a few undergrads living there, but it is fully furnished with all utilities included for like $900. Only bummer about UH campus is that there is no real bar/restaurant scene on. The closest exciting neighborhood is about 5 miles from campus, and that is probably Rice Village. Depending on your budget, that is one of my favorite neighborhoods in the city. Also check out places around the museum district. Those options get you to campus without having to travel on major highways, which is key. The worst thing about Houston is traffic, and it is BAD. PM me if you have any questions. Not a UH student, but my wife is.Torres1893 wrote:Yup. I was looking at Cullen oaks._sendnudes wrote:any of you all started to consider housing options?

I think I'll be attending the March ASD. Personally, it's just more convenient schedule-wise. I submitted my Travel Assistance form yesterday. I'm in Texas but more than 150 miles from Houston. I thought the $300 and hotel accommodations were very generous.arod wrote:Personally leaning towards the one in April, since the Diversity Reception is the night before, but not 100% sure. That's what I've heard...about the campus being relatively dead compared to other schools and compared to the city itself. I have my eye on a couple of places, Metro Midtown and Catalina Village near the Museum District. I'd like to have a place to myself but finding a roommate would definitely cut costs.MichiganHoosier wrote:It depends on what you want. Yeah, its a commuter school so not much going on around campus. There is one decent bar for after-class drinks but otherwise that's it. I live in the museum district and definitely recommend that area, including Rice village. Easy to bus to campus if you want, short drives since you can skip the highways, lots of restaurants, museums, the zoo, and other cultural attractions, etc._sendnudes wrote:
