Lmao love your response. Thanks.KiltedKicker wrote:Also a 1L here. What 4thand9 said seems right from talking to people and see people who have visited. I'm local and actually didn't visit until after I was waitlisted (I thought it would be weird to visit before being admitted), and when I visited I just had an informal conversation with Dean Deal and walked around the building. I think it helped just so that she could put a face to the application, but realistically it's very unlikely to make any difference if you've already shown enough interest. If you visit great, but if you can't it really shouldn't be a problem. And frankly you can get enough information off the internet to get a pretty good impression of which schools fit you best.ChodeAnalBead wrote:You're a great person.4thand9 wrote:Hey all,
Current 1L here just wishing you all the best of luck. I know there's already a recent alum who has posted in this thread, but if you want/need another resource feel free to ask either in a post/quote or pm.
I know the admissions process may feel especially inscrutable with SLS, but don't worry too much about complete, utter, deafening silence!
Did you visit SLS during or before your application season? Did you meet with an admissions member?
What does meeting with an admissions member during a visit usually entail?
Also, law school specific advice that can probably be applied more broadly as well: shockingly, people generally consider names such as 'ChodeAnalBead' to be unprofessional. While it's pretty likely no one will ever find out who you are, there is zero upside and considerable downside to saying stupid shit on the internet. Don't assume that things you put on the internet will be anonymous

Question - wondering if I should apply. 161 with a 3.9 GPA. Considering the schools I've gotten into already and measuring it against the people on TLS who didn't get in/got waitlisted, my softs are really great. I know my LSAT is way way low. Is it even worth spending the money to apply?

No I'm not. But my transcript is great (phi beta kappa, summa cum laude, etc), double major, 300/400 level classes. Thanks!!mm2368 wrote:Are you a URM?Madiscone wrote:Question - wondering if I should apply. 161 with a 3.9 GPA. Just FYI - penn accepted someone with a score as low as 152 last year (that's straight from the horse's mouth, Dean Post herself) so I really think if you like Penn enough, it's worth a shot. She also emphasized transcript a lot, and whether you took tough courses in Ugrad really matters so that gpa can help.

I think you should apply if you're keen on it, as long as you have your expectations in check and the $130 fee isn't cumbersome for you. Schools like Yale and Stanford accept a couple of candidates each year in the 150s. Perhaps they are URMs / legacy admits / whatever, but you might be accepted for all any of us can predict. Stanford is a notorious black box, after all.Madiscone wrote:Question - wondering if I should apply. 161 with a 3.9 GPA. Isn't it kind of assumed that you would be phi beta kappa/summa cum laude with a 3.9? Not sure that will stand out if you already have that GPAMadiscone wrote:No I'm not. Phi Beta Kappa has breadth requirements that aren't necessarily reflected in just a GPA.dojodawg wrote:Isn't it kind of assumed that you would be phi beta kappa/summa cum laude with a 3.9? Not sure that will stand out if you already have that GPA

Similarly, a number of undergrad institutions assign Latin honors on the basis of senior thesis evaluations, rather than grades.

Yeah, not to takeaway from S too much, but my undergrad had two sets of Latin honors for grades or the above. We also didn't have PBK, but other societies. When in doubt, list them out.Aquinas wrote:21157015576609 wrote:Phi Beta Kappa has breadth requirements that aren't necessarily reflected in just a GPA.dojodawg wrote:Isn't it kind of assumed that you would be phi beta kappa/summa cum laude with a 3.9? Has anyone had to wait a long time before getting their "application received" notification from Stanford? It has been a few days for me and I haven't gotten one.

I wanna say mine took 3-4 days. Most other schools were within 24 hours, so it definitely freaked me out at the time...renegaderoop wrote:Has anyone had to wait a long time before getting their "application received" notification from Stanford? Could any 1Ls speak to the grading system at Stanford? What percentage pass versus high pass?

4L, not a 1L, but I like to think I'm qualified.acz26 wrote:Could any 1Ls speak to the grading system at Stanford? What percentage pass versus high pass?
Hard cap of 40% Honors. They target 30%, though.

Re: Stanford C/O 2020 Applicants (2016-2017 Cycle)
Stanford's thread is always the chillest. I wonder if it's because of the black box that is the admissions process, or because of the people who apply.
Finally went UR. Don't know when I was complete. Submitted my app mid Sept, but needed one extra LoR because I'm a reapplicant. No clue if that set me back or by how much, but oh well. Way ahead of last year's pace still.
Good luck, folks.

By UR, do you mean "Submitted for Review"? Or is there a distinct status actually called "Under Review" or something of the like? I've been at "Submitted for Review" since 10/28...ProductofUnreality wrote:Stanford's thread is always the chillest.
