Re: Georgetown Wait-List 2015-2016 (Class of 2019)
Anyone want to take a guess at the chance of getting $$ off of the "special group in preferred waitlist"? I really do want to go to Georgetown (mainly due to location), but I don't think it'd be a good decision considering I got into comparable schools with way more money.
I replied to the feeler email to ask, but I got no reply (yet).

when I went to see the school i spoke to someone in admissions who said it wasn't impossible, but that they're more likely to "reward" you with money if you're willing to go there without any lol so annoyingAcordeon wrote:Anyone want to take a guess at the chance of getting $$ off of the "special group in preferred waitlist"? That seems like a really risky reward for putting 300K debt on the line. Oh well. They're aware of my situation and I guess I'll just leave it in their hands.ssitt wrote:when I went to see the school i spoke to someone in admissions who said it wasn't impossible, but that they're more likely to "reward" you with money if you're willing to go there without any lol so annoyingAcordeon wrote:Anyone want to take a guess at the chance of getting $$ off of the "special group in preferred waitlist"? When I visited campus, the admission officer told me that it is "rare" for the waitlisted to have scholarly money, because obviously the fund has already been drained at this time...Acordeon wrote:Anyone want to take a guess at the chance of getting $$ off of the "special group in preferred waitlist"? Has anyone in the special group within preffered waiting list who sent a reply to dean Spada gotten a response yet?

I was also told the same thing when I went to visit. Looks like a sticker price kind of thing, and, if thats the case I'd go with the other schools. Paying ~2,000 USD a month after graduation on your school loans for the next 15-20 years of your life is guaranteed, and, without knowing your job prospects at the moment it makes more sense to avoid it all for schools willing to give you $$$, unless, being in D.C. is absolutely necessary.
Good luck in any case!

To those trying to get an idea of how large the waitlist is now (before the May 2nd deadline, so things may change heavily in the next week):
According to Lawschoolnumbers, Georgetown has around 575 people per class.
On the Official Class of 2019 Georgetown Facebook page, there are currently 464 members.

Anyone else feeling the urge to withdraw from the waitlist to let other highly qualified individuals into their dream schools... please feel free. I will call down blessings on both you and your family

Does anyone know how many people actually got waitlisted at Georgetown?

No, but to quote myself from a few posts up, we may have a rough idea...jsylkpd wrote:Does anyone know how many people actually got waitlisted at Georgetown?
So, if they're starting to evaluate waitlisted candidates now, maybe we can say that the amount of students taken from the waitlist pool totals around just over 100, but maybe less.To those trying to get an idea of how large the waitlist is now (before the May 2nd deadline, so things may change heavily in the next week):

EDIT:If Georgetown were to admit say, 1 in every 5 people off of the waitlist (as the data we have suggests - around 20% of waitlisted students are accepted), that would mean around 500 people are on the waitlist

I have to imagine the waitlist is much larger than that. They only accept a certain percentage of waitlist candidates, so even if there are 100 spots, you need about 4 times the amount to match their percentage. There's more info in this post too:

Correct. I edited my original post to reflect that the waitlisted students most likely total around 500gjs13 wrote:Anonnonnon wrote:No, but to quote myself from a few posts up, we may have a rough idea...jsylkpd wrote:Does anyone know how many people actually got waitlisted at Georgetown?

The emails said they admit around 50. So to use your rough estimate of about 1 in 5, I would say it is likely there are closer to 300 on the waitlist.Anonnonnon wrote:Correct. From the emails that have gone out and research from previous years, it is likely that a few from the 'special group' may be contacted this week. Then say 25% of the preferred waiting list will probably get an offer between the dates of May 2 and 9.cak3893 wrote:

The rest of the waitlist will be given spaces over the summer if there are any, if not the hopeful students will fade away into the abyss that is the valley for unoffered waitlist students.

I didn't receive a confirmation/response for the one I sent yesterday in response to the feeler email, but i did when I sent my initial LOCI last week shortly after being waitlisted. So I'm not sure if it's only because I sent the previous one so recently.ls2k16 wrote:Did anyone receive some sort of response/confirmation to your loci/response to the feeler email?

Re: Georgetown Wait-List 2015-2016 (Class of 2019)
I think you may be forgetting something key - Georgetown really wants to admit people in these coming weeks that are the most committed to Georgetown (and who will most likely matriculate when extended an offer). I believe in this respect, someone on the regular waitlist who is more committed than someone on the preferred waitlist might be extended an offer in these coming weeks, while the person on the preferred waitlist is not.conztance wrote:From the emails that have gone out and research from previous years, it is likely that a few from the 'special group' may be contacted this week. How do you convey more commitment than others? Isn't everyone saying GULC is the only place they want to go , please let me in etc?Anonnonnon wrote:I think you may be forgetting something key - Georgetown really wants to admit people in these coming weeks that are the most committed to Georgetown (and who will most likely matriculate when extended an offer). Some people on the waitlist will be yield protection. Others simply won't be happy to wait and will prefer to have a deposit in by May 1. So that does eliminate some people.osgiliath wrote:How do you convey more commitment than others? I'm taking time off of work and flying in for a day to visit the team. If that doesn't scream commitment, then I'm out of options.

Re: Georgetown Wait-List 2015-2016 (Class of 2019)
The best way to convey commitment, from what I've learned (besides for LOCI, extra LOR, and "Why Georgetown" essays), is saying to GULC "If you accept me off of the waitlist, I will 100% matriculate. They like applicants who state this, and I'm sure you can imagine whyosgiliath wrote:How do you convey more commitment than others?
