Nice - my deposit is in as well!
I visited Cardozo yesterday and now i'm even more sure of my decision on BLS.
(BLS had a way more "real" and down-to-earth feeling/vibe compared to dozo + BLS library is like 1000x better than dozos (which reminded me of an underfunded undergrad library))
See ya at orientation!

Re: Brooklyn Law c/o 2019
Hey whats going on guys, when browsing through the posts on this bulletin I noticed that a lot of students were considering Dozo vs. Brooklyn. I myself am in the same position and was wondering what it was about either school that made it your go-to school. I have a guaranteed full ride at Dozo, and 45k per year (top 80%) at BLS. Any suggestions on what course of action I should take or considerations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Brooklyn Law c/o 2019
I mailed in my seat and housing deposit this last week. Then, I received an email from NYLS offering me a full tuition scholarship on Friday. Since NYLS is ranked #119, and Brooklyn fell to #97, should I try to negotiate? I have about a 50% scholarship from Brooklyn currently.
Also, does anyone have any ideas as to why Brooklyn would slip in the ratings? They're employment rate, especially with federal judges and at Big Law, saw a nice jump this year.
Looking forward to beginning this journey with you all!

It couldn't hurt to try. the difference between a school ranked 97 and 119 is so small and those two are absolutely peer schools. It will all come down to the money they still have available, so i don't see a reason why you shouldn't negotiate!kristaann_vt wrote:I mailed in my seat and housing deposit this last week. I tried using NYLS and it wasn't very effective. Your numbers will weigh much heavier.kristaann_vt wrote:I mailed in my seat and housing deposit this last week. Re: Brooklyn Law c/o 2019 - BLS DROP (HUGE) IN US N RANKINGS
I'd encourage you to look at their 2016 job placements that came out last week, which you can view here: https://www.brooklaw.edu/-/media/5C9285 ... .pdf?la=entezzeret wrote:well if I wasn't concerned before, that article definitely didn't inspire newfound confidence in BLS. It is one of my top choices but I really want to know how smart of a choice the school is after the dust settles. For arguments sake if it falls into t3 territory next year wouldn't that catastrophic results? Or at the very least be incredibly disheartening. However more importantly, what were the direct causes for such a huge dip? Rumor is it is because of the high amount of non-jd required jobs their graduates got but I would still like something more concrete.etfc737 wrote:Guys, what do you think about this?

From the leaked 2017 US N rankings, BLS has dropped to #97. That's a drop of -19 spots!
This is scary - and not purely because of the ranking - and it may be indicative of where the leadership of the school will take it going forward.
I have already submitted the first seat deposit, but now I'm reconsidering.
They offered ~ $23K; however, I have a comparable offer (accounting for the stipulation difference) from St. John's -- I'm now on the fence btwn SJU and BLS.
How do you guys (ppl who are admitted and are planning to attend BLS) feel about all of this?
BLS is where I want to go, but it seems like the administration is performing sub par in comparison to the other law schools that are on their lvl (Cardozo, SJU, (even SUNY Buffalo now?) etc)
The employment rate of grads in Big Law (100+ lawyers) improved from 11% to 19%. The number of students in federal clerkships also improved from 6 to 11.
Ratings don't concern me as much as getting a job, and I think these stats lower my fears of attending in consideration of the ratings drop.
Additionally, the entering class of 2015 had lower LSATs than 2014 (could this have affected the ratings), lowering slightly from 153-156-159 to 152-155-158, however, the GPAs increased from 3.05-3.31-3.53 to 3.11-3.36-3.59
I hope you found this information helpful

Re: Brooklyn Law c/o 2019
I was surprised at the long response time. At all of the other schools where I have been accepted, the response time was never longer than 2 days. However, I'm now on day 8 waiting to hear back from BLS. Last time it took 7 days for a response.UDtoLawSchool wrote:Yes I spoke to my counselor again at ASD and sent another email. I'm debating calling, perhaps that will be more effective.

What were your numbers? My GPA is above Brooklyn's 75th, while my LSAT is at the median. Currently, I was only given a $5,000 academic scholarship but a $13,000 need based scholarship from Brooklyn.lsb17 wrote:I used a NYLS full ride and was able to get a $5,000 bump.kristaann_vt wrote:I mailed in my seat and housing deposit this last week.
