They've begun notifying Chancellor's Scholarship finalists, in case that question is still relevant. I got a call from them last week and then an email about it today.

Also, I think this thread would be less dead if it was called University of North Carolina etc etc because UNC is too short for the search function on TLS. I messaged the OP but no luck so far. Would be nice to get a more substantial presence ITT.

maybe there will be more action now. or maybe there just aren't that many applicants on TLS.a mod wrote:FYI: 2 character searches should be active.

Also got the call, but unfortunately can't make the weekend, I am thinking I might do the video conference option. I wonder if it hurts my chances at all of getting it if I can't come that weekend?HangingAround wrote:congrats and see you there!cdavis1024 wrote:They've begun notifying Chancellor's Scholarship finalists, in case that question is still relevant. I don't think it would. Especially if you have a good reason and can explain why you're unavailable.cdotson2 wrote:Also got the call, but unfortunately can't make the weekend, I am thinking I might do the video conference option. The title of the thread is fixed now so hopefully there will be more posts! I've officially committed to Carolina, but for Fall 2017. I'm having a baby this weekend, sooooo it might have been a little hard to start in just 7 months
Good luck to everyone still applying and congrats to those who have gotten in! UNC is great and I am so excited to start, even though it won't be for another year and a half.

They changed the search to two letter minimums so it was fine anyways (though it is nice), but congrats on all fronts!mjm1315 wrote:The title of the thread is fixed now so hopefully there will be more posts! Re: University of North Carolina c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
This is perhaps a random question: yesterday, I received a missed call from a Chapel Hill number; however, I haven't applied to UNC, and I tried calling the number, but got no answer.
This is most likely a very random situation, but I was just wondering if there was any reason why the school would be calling outside of a decision of admission, or if anyone else has had a similar experience.
Thanks, you guys, and congrats to everyone thus far!

The school does solicit applicants by phone, I think. I remember another poster discussing it. They might also do other things, but that is one possibility.dbwj787 wrote: Thanks, you guys, and congrats to everyone thus far!

I wonder when UNC will make a move on held applicants. Didn't think I would be held with a 168 LSAT score.

Accepted via email this morning! Included was a very generous scholarship offer. I have lots of friends and family in the Chapel Hill area, so this offer is going to be tough to beat.
Above 75th LSAT and below 25th GPA for those still waiting.

Can confirm that acceptances are being sent out today. I was wondering what is considered a generous offer from UNC? And also, what some thoughts on the UNC v. Wake debate are. I got some money from UNC, but nowhere close to what I got from Wake (Wake set the bar pretty high in terms of scholarship offers). Any other insight other than what has been already posted is appreciated.

Check the 509 reports and compare the employment info and scholarship info (# scholarships awarded and the ranges of those scholarships). UNC is also cheaper than Wake, so the offer may look better for Wake, but it may still be cheaper to attend UNC. If they are not equal try and negotiate to get at least =COA or one better than the other. That will help you make your decision. From a birds-eye, the best school between the two is the one in the area you prefer. Wake, you're closer to Charlotte for networking. UNC you're closer to RDU. But their numbers are pretty similar if cost is the same.EasttoWest94 wrote:Can confirm that acceptances are being sent out today. I was wondering what is considered a generous offer from UNC? If you look at Law School Transparency UNC and Wake are basically the same this year, but you'll see the Wake varies widely year to year (was significantly lower last year) while UNC has stayed steady. Chapel Hill as a city is way better and more expensive than Winston, the law facility at Wake is way nicer than the one at UNC. UNC's funding comes primarily from the NC legislature while Wake, as a private school, does more with alumni donations. They just did an 11 million renovation of their lobby area from private donations that is really nice.EasttoWest94 wrote:Can confirm that acceptances are being sent out today. In terms of stuff that actually matters, like employment, it's about a wash in my experience. Most NC firms who recruit at one will recruit at another. UNC touts more of a public interest focus but both have significant private placement, both have pretty substantial unemployment/underemployment if you weren't to rank all that well in your class. I'm not sure how easy it is to get in state tuition, but UNC in state is very cheap compared to most law schools. I know their out of state scholarships are typically pro rata for if someone gets in state (remember also that Wake is 4k more expensive or so compared to OOS UNC). UNC takes a ton of in state kids, maybe 50%+ while Wake will have a lot more OOS. This makes for a bigger UNC alumni base in state, but maybe Wake having a smaller one is equally helpful in just increased loyalty, I don't really know. 5 of 7 justices on the NC Supreme Court are from UNC. Obviously UNC is ranked higher, but Wake is typically right around UNC and they seem confident it will bounce back up into the 30s. Still odd to me that the employment varies at Wake year to year, but I guess having a substantial OOS population might do that.
If from scholarship costs were the same, I'm not sure which I would, or potentially will, choose.

Pretty much agree with everything the two posters above said. If the cost is the same, I don't think you can really go wrong with either school. With a gun to my head, I would probably give a very slight edge to UNC, because it is the state university and has a very strong presence throughout the state. But that edge is miniscule. At the right cost, they're both very solid options if you're looking to practice and live in North Carolina.EasttoWest94 wrote:Can confirm that acceptances are being sent out today. Between the two, I would choose UNC. Then again, I like the Raleigh area, and UNC is only about 2.5 hours from the beach.EasttoWest94 wrote:Thanks everyone! Really appreciate the feedback.

I'm curious about the same thing. I was held early December and emailed admissions a few days ago to see if they were planning to move on any soon. Just got the same response as the original hold email, ongoing review etc etc. Does anybody have any past experience or additional info on the chances of Hold to Acceptance? and is $$ still possible after being held?yenisey wrote:Same boat.
