Depends on stats. I would be wary towards UM at sticker though. Objectively a dicey investment. Check out LST if you haven't already & best of luck in your cycle!MiamiHeat3 wrote:Got put on hold today, I'm extremely nervous about this. Do you think I'll get a definitive answer soon?

I agree with both of you. I think it would be more fiscally responsible to either attend FIU, UF, or FSU. We'll see what they say, but I'm more interested in the state schools than Miami.mukol wrote:I second this. Miami at sticker would be insanely irresponsible.

Well, I just received an unsolicited scholarship bump to a full ride via email this morning. Was pretty sure I had eliminated Miami from contention, but this might put them back in the game.

What was your shcolly offer before the bump. Question to both of you, if you do not mind answering that..fishpaste1 wrote:Was thinking about trying the same... Let us know if you do/ how it ends up.mukol wrote:Unsolicited bump to full --> solicit bump to stipend?

Thanks for the reply! My bump was from 32-36k. So, maybe there's hope I could get full.... Holding onto hope. :3fishpaste1 wrote:36k a yr before the bump for me.adj8103 wrote:What was your shcolly offer before the bump. Re: Miami Law c/o 2019 Applicants
Edit: let me rephrase my question more broadly. How does the selection process for Miami Scholars work? Has anyone who has been interviewed been notified if they got it or not? If so, what was the turnaround time between interview and notification? 4/1 was the final deadline for Miami Scholar applications...

Long time lurker,1st time poster.
Wait listed at Miami as of early March.
About midway through March my status checker switched to say something along the lines of "You've been selected as an alternate for admission..."
Is this a preferred wait list or something special, or is it the typical response?
Any help is appreciated.

Every school's got their own wording, I'd call and askFLjd2016 wrote:Long time lurker,1st time poster.

UM Law alum here. Congrats to all who've been accepted! Happy to answer any questions you may have about the school, the Miami/Coral Gables area, etc.

What are job prospects like? Are they as bad as everyone says it is on this site?
How generous would you say UM is at giving scholarship money to people at the median LSAT and >75th GPA?

With regard to job prospects -- honestly, everyone I know who I graduated with (and who passed the bar) is currently employed full-time. Many of them even had offers with local firms, judges, etc., before graduation. Particularly, If you want to stay in the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area, a UM JD will put you in a nice position. So many hiring partners at major firms down here are UM Law grads. I also know multiple classmates who've secured state and federal clerkships with UM Alum judges in the area. The alumni network is definitely strong in the tri-county area.
Personally, I moved out of state and had no problem finding a full-time attorney job within a few months. I know others who are practicing in NYC, Boston and other major markets and didn't have much trouble finding a job. Although, full disclosure, the people I know who are practicing in those markets (particularly with the bigger firms) generally graduated in the top +/- 20% of the class.
I really can't comment intelligently on scholarship money for those stats. I know they've changed the size of the incoming classes recently, so I'm sure that alters how they divvy up the money. I'd say you have a good shot at a generous offer.
I hope this helps a little bit.
