Re: UVA c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
They require two letters, four max (I think).mpellenberger wrote:
Without doing the research myself, how many can we send to UVA?
Also (a question to the field) - I have 6 letters, all more or less equal (2 stand out, the other 4 are from research faculty from my chemistry career and are all equivalent)... Should I just randomly choose 2 of those 4? Is there any rhyme or reason to one school preferring 2 vs 4 vs XXX?
Personally, I'm sending three (two academic, one work). If you have limited work experience, I'd just stick with the two academic letters you like most and call it a day.
Edit: benwyatt scooped me, agree with everything he says.

If it is just one job the letters are speaking to, I'd stick with the strongest one.mpellenberger wrote: Thanks guys. I do have pretty cool (IMO) work experience - Medicinal neurochemistry with the National Institutes of Health. Maybe 2 from WUSTL (undergrad) and 2 from research?

The lack of females in any incoming class is somewhat alarming.

2017 seems like an outlier.fips tedora wrote:The lack of females in any incoming class is somewhat alarming.
2016: 58% men, 42% women
2015: 55% men, 45% women
2014: 55% men, 45% women
It will be interesting to see the composition of 2018, though.

I'd still attend, and not think twice about the fact. Berkeley's percentages are astonishing, though.doublehoohopeful wrote:2017 seems like an outlier.fips tedora wrote:The lack of females in any incoming class is somewhat alarming.

From a diversity standpoint, I think it is an issue. From a finding a SO standpoint, I think looking within the law school is a dangerous game. On the bright side, UVA med for the class of 2018 is 51% women. Think of the preftige of being a lawyer/doctor couple!Seamus887 wrote:

Or, one could look to the undergrads for the easy hookups. "Omg, you're in law school!?" (undergarments drop)doublehoohopeful wrote:From a diversity standpoint, I think it is an issue. Until they realize you're going to be paying off debt for the foreseeable future. Also not looking to hook up with people that are five years younger than me.fips tedora wrote: Or, one could look to the undergrads for the easy hookups. "Omg, you're in law school!?" (undergarments drop)

Clarified my original post. Not looking to hook up with undergraduates. Kind of creepy when you're 26.benwyatt wrote: If you're trawling your law school's UG, neither you nor your paramour are thinking that far into the future.

Re: UVA c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
Hence, why I originally stated "easy hookups", wherein no future together is likely. If you're 26 and hooking up with a senior, I'd say you're fine. Regardless, the unofficial rule for the age limit is one's age, divided in half, plus seven. So, 26/2+7=20. Party on, bro.benwyatt wrote:If you're trawling your law school's UG, neither you nor your paramour are thinking that far into the future.doublehoohopeful wrote:Until they realize you're going to be paying off debt for the foreseeable future.fips tedora wrote: Or, one could look to the undergrads for the easy hookups. Stranger things have been known to happen on the Corner.benwyatt wrote: Eh, as long as they pass the rule of 7 you're okay.
I think the best policy is to not actively seek them out but if you're both at the same bar, "Are you still in undergrad?" isn't really a necessary question.
ETA: Scooped on rule of 7

I suspect UVA has the best of both worlds. An intelligent undergraduate student body (#2 public), but not too good, like at a Columbia or Stanford, where they would not be impressed by you being a law student. As a result, if properly executed, I think you could clean up with the undergrads as a law student at UVA. If fact, it may be one of the few top law schools where you don't need a tinder. Now if you are not into undergrads, there are plenty--and I mean plenty--of other graduate students at UVA and and all the other law school that make for good "partners". What ever the case, you don't want to date law students. I assure you.

I don't want to date any law students, if I can help it. I will accept FWB, though. I have the premonition that many law students are smart enough to recognize the merits/benefits of being fuck buds.Ron Howard wrote: What ever the case, you don't want to date law students. I assure you.

Re: UVA c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
Also, I just checked and Penn has 44% female and Columbia 45%. At Chicago I think we had about 43%. So I am not sure why people are complaining. Assuming that 2017 was an unrepresentative year, I am am confident it was, UVA's male/female ratio is on point with its peers. If you want to have a misguided hook up with a law student at UVA, your chances are just as good as any other school. But again, I do not recommend it.fips tedora wrote:I don't want to date any law students, if I can help it. I will accept FWB, though.
