Re: Columbia Reserved 2018 (the ultimate wait)
1. I'm sure they know a lot of people would probably take NYU or Chi or even B,D,V,P with $$$ over Columbia. A LOCI might help to clarify that it's your top or one of your top choices (if it is).NoBladesNoBows wrote:Didn't send a LOCI and most likely won't. Unless it's YP I highly doubt that a LOCI will matter at this point. It's Columbia, they know that if they accept you you'll go. It's purely a numbers game at this point. But hey I could be wrong!
2. Did anyone get an email confirming the receipt of their Reserve response form?

Is Columbia expected to draw from their waitlist this year? If so, does anyone have any idea when this is slated to begin?

Go check out Spivey's thread in the "Free help from professionals" forum. He suggested the T6 could start moving in the next 2-3 weeks.olleti wrote:Is Columbia expected to draw from their waitlist this year? If so, does anyone have any idea when this is slated to begin?

Re: Columbia Reserved 2018 (the ultimate wait)
Why is this thread so dead? Don't you, people, like speculation and reading tea leaves? Here is some LSN data analysis with positive conclusions:
2013-2014 Waitlist vs 2014-2015 Waitlist
Accepted: 203 vs 211
Withdrew: 91 vs 100
Left in Consideration: 112 vs 111
Of those, accepted to HYS: 27 vs 42
Admitted, Attending Columbia: 29 vs 22
As you see, the data shows that Columbia has a smaller pool of potential students (they accepted more, but more withdrew + HYS accepted many more of Columbia's potential matriculants). In addition, fewer people committed to attending. Lastly, Harvard is not done pulling people from the waitlist this cycle, which means more people are likely to withdraw. Should we expect a big acceptance wave soon?

I hope so. But they might have a bigger reserve pool this year, too. I mean, I have no idea how I even made the WL with my #s, so I'm guessing the standards weren't too high.

Re: Columbia Reserved 2018 (the ultimate wait)
I will analyze the WL data when I have a little more time. Last week, I did that for Harvard, and I found striking differences in the quality of waitlisted applicants (see the Harvard WL thread). So, I would expect to see the same for Columbia. It looks like this year most schools are putting extra "cushion" in their waitlists to avoid painful falls.usn26 wrote:I hope so. Now, let's speculate. Based on Spivey's questionable assumptions and my unrepresentative personal experiences, it seems that the top schools may start compensating for the drop in high-quality applicants by accepting pairs of super-splitters and reverse splitters. The logic is simple: if you can't cut your class size anymore ($$$ loss), and you want to keep your medians, you can simply accept a 174-180, 3.0 + a 165-169, 4.0. This will keep your LSAT and GPA benchmarks constant and allow you to fill up the class to the greatest extent possible. The problem is that you need a perfect balance of the two (hence, the crazy obsession with yield). That is why IMHO Harvard, Columbia, and NYU waitlisted so many reverse splitters and extreme splitters. So hold on to your 165, 4.33 or 174, 3.0-- it may still get you into a T6.

More spec. Spivey says he thinks at least two T6's will pull waves off their wait lists in the next two weeks

Re: Columbia Reserved 2018 (the ultimate wait)
Obviously, it won't be Yale and Stanford. NYU and Harvard already had waves. So, must be Columbia and UChi. But since UChi has a tiny class, Columbia it is! I won't put my phone down until I get the call...starting now.hopeboaltberkeley wrote:More spec. Spivey says he thinks at least two T6's will pull waves off their wait lists in the next two weeks

Re: Columbia Reserved 2018 (the ultimate wait)
When I answered a question a couple days ago about this and predicted two waves from t6, Harvard was one of those I was predicting (which just happened today as we saw). So over the next week or so who in t6 is most likely to get nervous feet when their deposits withdraw for HLS. That is what my projections were based on.Comma.Split wrote:Obviously, it won't be Yale and Stanford. NYU and Harvard already had waves. So, must be Columbia and UChi. Re: Columbia Reserved 2018 (the ultimate wait)
If I am not mistaken, two years ago Columbia had a pretty big wave early June. Last year there was no movement. If there is a movement this cycle, chances are it will be after Harvard is done pulling people from the WL, i.e. early to mid June.usn26 wrote:Why then?1Lofalawyer wrote:Anyone else expecting some movement in two weeks time?

This. To be honest, I have no idea how I made it this far anyway, and I am 99.9% sure that there is no way for me to get off CLS' reserve group. But hey... I'm still excited to see what this cycle will be like.Comma.Split wrote:If I am not mistaken, two years ago Columbia had a pretty big wave early June. Last year there was no movement. Got an email today saying my app in the reserve pool got selected as one that merits further review and asked if I could have a conversation with a member of the selection committee.

Congrats! I can only imagine that this is a good news. Gl with the interview- mind sharing your stats?
