+1
+2, I'm in this same boat. Applied ED, first choice among the rest.

What does the email for people on the Preferred waitlist vs Regular waitlist look like?

Got that one too. I'm regular. It seems they say every year that deposits are strong and we won't hear until after the deposit deadline.

Preferred wait list email says that we won't hear anything until after May 1, but they will contact us by May 7 with an update.

Well, I got the preferred wait list email, but they told me originally I was on the regular wait list, which I found odd given my results at other schools. So who knows what waitlist I'm really on.

Is the preferred Waitlist email?

"Good afternoon from Georgetown. I’m writing to you today to give you an update on the Georgetown waiting list.

As of today our deposits are quite strong, and we are not planning to make many offers prior to our May 1st deposit deadline. However, these things have a way of changing so it is always possible we will have room in the next few weeks.

If we do extend offers of admission, the Committee will be particularly interested in applicants who truly want to be at Georgetown. Please continue to keep in touch with us with your level of interest and any changes in your application through admis@law.georgetown.edu . The key date for us (and you) is May 1st when our first deposits are due. With the usual extension requests, we will know for sure whether we have any openings shortly after that.

Thank you again for your continued interest in Georgetown and for your patience with our process. We hope to give you a fuller update no later than Monday, May 11th.

Best,

Andy"

Swap May 11 for May 7 and add in a line at the beginning saying that preferred waitlist candidates are their first choice. Other than that it's the same.

I'm supposed to be regular waitlist and got the same email but it said May 11. I wonder if there's any difference? Any waitlisters here not get any email?

Preferred waitlist email - verbatim
Dear applicant,

Good afternoon from Georgetown. I’m writing to you today to give you an update on the Georgetown waiting list. As you know, you are on our preferred waiting list, which we typically look to first if spaces open up in the entering class.

As of today our deposits are quite strong, and we are not planning to make many offers prior to our May 1st deposit deadline. However, these things have a way of changing so it is always possible we will have room in the next few weeks.

If you don’t hear from us earlier, the key date for us (and you) is May 1st when our first deposits are due. With the usual extension requests, we will know for sure whether we have any openings by Thursday, May 7th at the latest. We will be back in touch then, if not before.

We look forward to hearing back from you and we thank you again for your continued interest in Georgetown and for your patience with our process.

Best,

Andy

Okay cool I guess it sounds like we're on different lists, but I guess they'll gage your interest on the 7th and then look at the regular list on the 11th to see if they need to pull from the regular list?

If I can add in my two cents to this:

I received the same email 10 minutes ago. I am regular WL.
Can someone that's Preferred WL confirm its the same?

Maybe they mixed us in?

It could be that they may have updated WL rankings based on interest.

That's kind of weird though. I feel like there's not enough time between those two dates, but maybe that's just me?

Guess if you're not ready to commit within that time frame, they don't want you?

That's nuts. What if they accept a preferred who wants to sort out their financials with Georgetown first? That can take more than four days to do. But, who knows how this is working.

Also, just want to clarify. I'm regular waitlist, got a May 11th date, but my email didn't say anything about preferred candidates. Probably doesn't matter, but someone above said something about there being a line in there about them, when there's actually not.

I guess it'll work like this. They'll send out an email on the 7th to the preferred waitlist candidates gauging their interest, based on that information they email select people on the regular waitlist gauging their interest.

If you are within easy driving distance you should really visit. If it requires a plane flight you may not want to bother tho. I flew in and was stone walled at admissions. I was not able to talk to the admissions officers but they did take down my name so maybe some record of the visit exists? I completely understand why they cant speak to everyone since it's a huge school and all, but I was a little deflated that I spent $400 and didn't even get to shake a hand : \

That said, I STILL REALLY REALLY WANT TO GO THERE!!

Is anyone crafting an immediate response to this last email or waiting until they email us again on the 7th/11th (aside from already sent in LOCI of course)?

SAME. I flew there, but ugh oh well. If you have to fly there I'd say don't bother, especially this late in the game.

I sent an additional email only because my LOCI was from a few months ago. Just about two sentences that reiterated my interest. If my LOCI weren't from February I would have left it alone.

I didn't respond to the email because I sent a LOCI recently.

A little off topic, but does anyone know about odds of getting placed in Curriculum B for us waitlisted folks? If I were to get in (knock on wood), my strong preference would be for Curriculum B, but I've heard that it might not be likely for people on the waitlist because competition to get placed in that section is strong to begin with.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
